An-Nisa Verses 61 - 62

When these hypocrites were called to what Allah revealed and to His Messenger -after his death, coming to the Messenger means following his Sunnah- they turned away and said: "In taking this way, we intended good by words and deeds, and reconciliation between evidence through reason and Sharia." Ibn Taimyah: 2/286.
Question: What are the similarities between past hypocrites and contemporary hypocrites?

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 62

This verse is evidence that an adversity may befall a person due to sins he has committed. Al-Alusi: 5/69.
Question: Can sins be the cause of an adversity? Explain in light of this verse.

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 63

Meaning: Advise them in private, between you and them, for that is more likely to succeed in achieving the desired goal. Al-Saadi: 184.
Question: Why is private advice better than public advice?

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 63

This proves that the one who commits sins, even if he is to be overlooked publicly, is to be admonished privately in the sternest terms, in whatever manner is thought most likely to achieve the goal. Al-Saadi: 184.
Question: You may turn away from a sinner for a reason, but how should you deal with him?

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 63

Abu Ja'far said: "This is an allusion from Allah to these hypocrites that their disobedience to Allah and His Messenger, and their discontent with His Messenger's judgment is due to Allah's abandonment of them and the prevailing of wretchedness over them. If it were not for that, they would have been among those who were content with the Messenger's judgment and hasten to obey him." Al-Tabari: 8/516.
Question: What prevented the hypocrites from accepting the judgment of Allah and His Messenger?

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 63

Meaning: We have not sent you and other Messengers except to be kind to the people, to forgive and pray for them with the utmost effort and sincerity. Al-Biqai: 2/274.
Question: There is a condition for preaching that yields acceptance from Allah and from people. What is it?

An-Nisa Verses 0 - 64

This coming to the Messenger (r) was applicable only during his life, as the context indicates that, since the Messenger's prayers for forgiveness could only happen during his life. After his death, nothing is asked of him, rather that is ascribing partners to Allah (shirk). Al-Saadi: 185.
Question: When is it appropriate to come to the Messenger (r) to ask him for prayer for Allah's forgiveness?
