Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 40

Allah commands the Jews to embrace Islam and follow Muhammad (r). He provokes them by mentioning the example of their father Israel, Allah's Prophet Jacob (u), as if saying, "O children of the righteous and obedient servant of Allah, be like your father in following the truth." This is similar to one's saying, "O son of that generous man, do this or that," or "O son of the brave man, engage the strong fighters," or "O son of the scholar, seek knowledge," and so on. Ibn Kathir: 1/79.
Question: Allah calls the Jews as the descendants of their father Jacob (u). Why?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 41

The Quran's confirmation of the Torah and other revelations, and Prophet Muhammad's (r) confirmation of the Prophets before him has three aspects: First: The Prophets before Muhammad (r) revealed that he would come, and then he did as they said, thus proving their truthfulness. Second: He confirmed their Prophethood and their revealed Scriptures, hence, he attested to their truthfulness. Third: The Quran and Muhammad's (r) teachings are in agreement with what is in their Scriptures regarding the Oneness of Allah (Tawhīd), mention of the Hereafter, and religious beliefs, thus, he confirmed them since they all share the same faith in these beliefs. Ibn Juzay: 1/64.
Question: How does the Quran confirm previous Scriptures?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 41

Although this verse addresses the Children of Israel, it applies to anyone who does what they did. Whoever takes a bribe to change or invalidate a right, or refrains from teaching what is required of him, or from performing what he has learned—which is required of him—in order to receive a reward, then he falls within the meaning of this verse. Al-Qurtubi: 2/11.
Question: When can one be described as trading Allah's verses for a small price?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 42

The verse is used as evidence that one who knows the truth must reveal it, and it is forbidden for him to conceal it, in accordance with the conditions known to scholars. Al-Alusi: 1/247.
Question: What is inferred from this verse?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 44

The intent is not to censure them for enjoining righteousness while abandoning doing it, but rather for abandoning enjoining righteousness. Enjoining good is a part of righteousness and is an obligation for scholars; who themselves are required to heed, and adhere to that which they preach others. Enjoining righteousness and performing righteousness are both required. Neither one is rendered unnecessary when omitting the other. Ibn Kathir: 1/82.
Question: When a sinner sees another person committing the same sin, should he remain silent about it?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 45

Allah, the Almighty, says that establishing prayer is difficult for everyone except those who have the above-mentioned trait. Al-Tabari: 1/22.
Question: What is the trait that endears prayer to the believer and makes him long for it?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 45

Prayer is not burdensome for the humbly submissive because they value its positive effects on them, and anticipate the reward stored up for them, so it is easy for them. It is said that whoever knows the value of what he seeks, giving will be easy for him, and whoever is certain of the return, will be generous with his gift. Al-Alusi: 1/249.
Question: Prayer is not difficult for the humbly submissive to Allah. Why?
