Belief includes affirmation of the heart, and inward and outward deeds. Since carrying out deeds and perfecting them depends on reliance upon Allah, Allah singles out reliance on Him among all other deeds, which would otherwise be included in faith and its requirements. Al-Saadi: 878.
Question: Among all deeds, Allah singles out reliance on Him, even though it is part of faith. Why?
(And upon Him), on Allah alone. (We have relied) because there is nothing in anyone's hands but His. Otherwise, those whom He wants to punish may be shown mercy, and those whom He wants to show mercy to may be punished. Hence, every mercy or punishment is solely from Him. Al-Biqai: 20/270.
Question: Why do we solely rely on Allah?
Swearing by the pen stems from the honor of writing the holy Quran and other holy books, and books of education, high morality, and sciences. All of which is honorable with Allah, the Almighty. Ibn Ashur: 29/60.
Question: Allah swears by the pen. Why?
This is a threat to those who have gone astray and a promise to those who follow true guidance. Al-Saadi: 879.
Question: What is the benefit of mentioning Allah's knowledge of the strayed and the guided?
The prohibition of obeying someone entails a prohibition of imitating him in the first place. Therefore, the liar and the swearer must not be obeyed or imitated. Ibn Taimyah: 6/370.
Question: The verse indicates that it is forbidden to imitate people of immorality and corruption. Explain.
Qualities are acquired through socializing, hence there is a warning about acquiring some of their morals through interacting with them. One has to be careful when interacting with them to call them to the way of Allah. Ibn Taimyah: 6/370.
Question: Calling the people of disobedience to the way of Allah comes with a warning, what is it?
That is, due to the liar's weak character and lowliness; he protects himself by daring to swear falsely in the Names of Allah, which he uses all the time and out of place. Ibn Kathir: 4/404.
Question: Why are we prohibited to obey those who swear often?
