This reveals the perfect nature of Allah's hearing and seeing, and that they encompass all things, small and great. That also indicates that Allah will respond to her complaint and remove her distress. Al-Saadi: 844.
Question: The verse concludes with these two holy names. Why?
These verses make clear that Dhihar [making one's wife unlawful to him by likening her to his mother] is prohibited. In fact, it is said that Dhihar is a major sin because it changes the rule of Allah without His permission, which is even more serious than many major sins. Al-Alusi: 14/200.
Question: Dhihar is described as evil and false. Why?
Dhihar is described as evil and falsehood. The difference between them is that the saying by a husband to his wife, "You are to me like the back of my mother," contains two parts: Informing that she became unlawful to him and initiating an evil statement. Falsehood is untruth, which is the opposite of the firmed truth, and evil is the opposite of good. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/139.
Question: Dhihar is described as evil and false. Why?
This ruling that We have explained and clarified to you is so that you may truly believe in Allah and His Messenger by adhering to this and other rulings, and acting in accordance with them. Adherence to the rulings of Allah and acting in accordance with them is part of faith; indeed, it is the aim of faith and is one of the things that cause faith to increase, develop and become complete. Al-Saadi: 844.
Question: Given this verse, explain the link between righteous deeds and faith.
Meaning: They are doomed. Qatadah said: They have been disgraced like the ones before them have. It is said that they have been punished. Moreover, it is said that they have been enraged in the Battle of the Trench. It is also said that they will be debased, which is a glad tidings of victory from Allah to the believers. Al-Qurtubi: 20/305.
Question: What is meant by (abased)? What is the glad tidings in this verse?
It is evident that those who oppose Allah and His Messenger are abased, disgraced, full of rage and sorrow, and doomed. This occurs only when they hide their opposition for fear of being killed; otherwise, those who, openly, show their opposition and feel secure about their lives and wealth, are not abased, rather, they are happy and joyous. Allah says, (are abased as those before them were abased), the ones before them were those who opposed the Messengers and Allah's Messenger were abased by a punishment from Allah, or at the hands of the believers. Ibn Taimyah: 6/240.
Question: Opposing Allah and His Messenger results in sicknesses of the heart in this life and Allah's punishment in the Hereafter. Explain.
The statement (Allah has kept their complete record, while they have forgotten it) serves as an answer to a hidden question that says: How Will Allah inform them of their deeds that are so abundant and diverse? The answer is: Allah had enumerated all of it and nothing is missed by Him. They forgot it and did not keep track of it, but they will find it present before them in their Records. Al-Shawkani: 5/186.
Question: The statement (Allah has kept their complete record, while they have forgotten it) is an answer to a hidden question. What is it?
