Meaning: Allah has honored the Quran and raised it above all previous books. He protected it from containing magic, conjecture, or falsehood. It is said that it is called (noble) because it enjoins good morals and high standards. Moreover, it is said that is because it honors those who memorize it, and elevates those who recite it. Al-Wahidi reported this explanation by those who work with semantics: Describing the Holy Quran as (noble) because it leads to abundance of good by its signs and proofs that show the truth of religion. Al-Azhari said: Noble is a comprehensive name for everything that is praised, and the Holy Quran is praised for its guidance, clarification, knowledge, and wisdom. Al-Shawkani: 5/160.
Question: State some of the honors of the Quran.
This verse, through its allusion, indicates that no one will be able to grasp the meanings of the Quran, nor understand it except those with pure hearts. It is forbidden for those with impure hearts that are filled with religious innovations and oppositions to attain its meanings or understand it. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/120.
Question: Whoever seeks to understand the Quran, must purify his heart. Explain.
Allah attributes the revelation of the Quran to His Lordship of the worlds. His Lordship entails His ownership, sovereignty, and rule over them. With all that, it is inconceivable for His complete lordship of them to leave them neglected, create them with no purpose, does not enjoin nor forbid them, and does not reward nor punish them. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/121.
Question: Allah attributes the revelation of the Quran to His Lordship. Why?
Meaning: This Quran which is described in these sublime terms is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds, Who takes care of His servants by bestowing His blessings, both spiritual and worldly. One of the most important aspects of caring for His servants is the revelation of this Quran, which guides to what is in the best interests of people in both realms. Al-Saadi: 836.
Question: After mentioning the revelation of the Quran, Allah describes Himself as the Lord of the worlds. Why?
Meaning: O people, do you use this Quran, about which I informed and explained to you, to make concessions to the disbelievers, which would entice them to persist in their denial and disbelief in it. Al-Tabari: 23/152.
Question: What is meant by: (Do you take this discourse lightly)?
Ibn Atiyah said: The interpreters unanimously agreed that this verse is a rebuke to those who, when it rains, say: We have been given rain by such and such a star. Meaning: Instead of thanking Allah for the provision He gives you, you deny Him. Ibn Juzay: 2/406.
Question: In this verse, what is meant by: (provision) and (deny)?
Meaning: Allah is the (First) before everything, Who has no beginning, and He was and nothing else existed before Him. (The Last) after everything perishes; He endures eternally when nothing else remains. (The Most High): The victor, the highest above all things. (The Most Near): The All-Knower of everything. That is the meaning of the saying of Ibn Abbas (k). Al-Baghawi: 4/322.
Question: Explain the meaning of above-mentioned holy names of Allah.
