Allah swears by the stars to the soundness of what the Messenger (ﷺ) brought of divine revelation, because there is something amazing in common between the two. Allah has made the stars an adornment for the heaven, and similarly, He has made the revelation and its effects an adornment for the earth. If it were not for the knowledge inherited from the Prophets, the people would be in darkness greater than that of the darkest night. Al-Saadi: 818.
Question: What is the link between the stars and the Prophethood of Muhammad (ﷺ)?
This verse is the result of the oath; it is addressed to the tribe of Quraish, and (your companion) is Muhammad (ﷺ). So, Allah rules out straying and erring on the part of the Prophet (ﷺ). The difference between them is that straying is unintentional while erring is. Ibn Juzay: 2/380.
Question: What is the difference between straying and erring?
Allah rules out straying and erring from the Prophet (ﷺ), and describes him as one who does not speak out of his own desire, but a revelation revealed. So, Allah rules out the desires and affirms the complete knowledge, which is the revelation. The negation of desires indicates the perfect intent, and the affirmation of revelation indicates the perfect knowledge and Allah describes the Prophet's opponents with the opposite of these two traits. The human perfection is attained by completing the submission to Allah through knowledge and intent. Ibn Taimyah: 6/128.
Question: This verse confirmed the Prophet's (ﷺ) perfection and the polytheists' deficiency. Explain.
This indicates that the Sunnah is also revealed from Allah to His Messenger (ﷺ). Al-Saadi: 818.
Question: How does this verse explain the stature of the Sunnah?
Allah negates His Prophet's turning his gaze to every side and extending his sight beyond his limit, like a person who lacks etiquette when he is present before kings and greats. Allah relates that he was in such complete control of himself and so exclusively attentive that he kept his mind and his sight focused on the object for which he had been summoned. He maintained a great composure, and tranquility of heart, which reflected the ultimate human perfection. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/76.
Question: This verse indicates the Prophet's (ﷺ) perfect etiquette during Al-Isra’ and Al-Miraj journey. Explain.
Meaning: Whatever their souls, the persistent enjoiners of evil, lust for. A human soul always longs for less than the best because it is prone to the love of pleasures; it is driven to what yields the best outcome for it only by reason. Al-Alusi: 14/58.
Question: How does one make the best out of himself from this verse?
The wisdom dictates that whoever recognizes guidance, should follow it, even if it comes from his enemy, so, how about if this guidance comes from One Who is superior to him, One Whose benevolence never ceases to reach him? Al-Biqai: 19/61.
Question: What is inferred from this verse: (And there has come to them guidance from their Lord)?
