Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 21

The reality of things, whether good or evil, can become clearer through presenting examples and narration about former people. Therefore, Allah says to His Messenger (ﷺ): (And mention the brother of 'Ad). Al-Alusi: 25/251.
Question: What is the benefit of reminding about the story of people of 'Ad?

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 23

The word, (people) is added to the expression (behaving ignorantly) to indicate that ignorance had become a community-wide trait and an essential part of who they were. It is similar to what Lot (u) said to his people: (Is there not among you a man of reason). Ibn Ashur: 26/48.
Question: In this verse, what does the word, (people) indicate?

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 24

Aisha (i) said: Whenever the wind was stormy, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: "O Allah, I ask you of its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness with which it has been sent; and I seek Your refuge from its harm, the harm within it, and the harm with which it has been sent." And when there was thunder and lightning in the sky, his color underwent a change, and he went out and in, forwards and backwards; and when the rain came, he felt relieved, so, I asked him (about it) and he said: "How would I know, it may be as the people of 'Ad said: (This is a cloud bringing us rain). Al-Alusi: 25/256.
Question: What is the recommended supplication when seeing the wind blowing fiercely or clouds?

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 26

Meaning: We gave 'Ad power and prosperity more than We have given to you (O Quraish), so, do not think that what We have bestowed upon you has never been given to anyone else, or that it will protect you from the punishment of Allah at all. Rather, others were given more power and prosperity than you, but their wealth, sons, and troops did not avail them against Allah in the slightest. Al-Saadi: 783.
Question: Material strength does not avail people anything against Allah's punishment. Explain.

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 26

The purpose of saying: (And We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts) is to emphasize that they were not short of any physical faculties that may hinder their perception of the truth except stubbornness. This is an allusion to the polytheists of Quraish, which means that you deprived yourselves of the benefit of using your hearing, sight, and hearts just as they did. Ibn Ashur: 26/53.
Question: What is the purpose of saying: (And We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts)?

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 26

This verse and other similar ones indicate that hearing, sights, and hearts do not benefit their owners when they deny the signs of Allah. This affirms that intellect, which is the basis of accountability, cannot, by itself, attain the useful faith and knowledge leading to salvation. Ibn Taimyah: 5/550.
Question: Guidance is not the fruit of intellect; rather, it is a favor from Allah, the Almighty. Explain.

Al-Ahqaf Verses 0 - 28

Meaning: The polytheists claimed that their gods were their intercessors with Allah, and would bring them closer to Him, yet they could not help them nor protect them from His punishment. Al-Shawkani: 5/24.
Question: The gods taken besides Allah are helpless in this life and the Hereafter. Explain in light of this verse.
