The life of this world had deceived you with its falsehoods and ornaments until you thought there would be no other life or resurrection. Al-Qurtubi: 19/173.
Question: How did worldly life delude them?
The word (Lord) is repeated to allude to the fact that Allah's protection and upbringing of His creations have many aspects depending on their particular affairs; His protection of a certain aspect is different from that of another, and His protection of His creations as a whole is not the same as protecting each one on its own, despite the fact that relative to His Power, all of that is easy. Al-Biqai: 18/116.
Question: The word (Lord) is repeated. Why?
Worship is based on two pillars: Love of Allah and humility toward Him, both of which stem from knowledge of the praiseworthy attributes, majesty, and supremacy of Allah. A l-Saadi: 779.
Question: What are the pillars of worship? From where do they stem?
Abu Huraira (t) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Allah, the Glorified, says: "Pride is My cloak and Greatness is My robe, and whoever competes with Me with regard to either of them, I shall throw him into the Fire." Al-Shawkani: 5/12.
Question: From the Prophet's Sunnah, show that Pride is restricted to Allah.
Having referred to the revelation of His Book that contains commands and prohibitions, Allah now mentions His creation of the heavens and the earth thus combining the creation and the command. (Verily, His is the creation and the command) [7:54]. Al-Saadi: 779.
Question: After mentioning the revelation of His Book, Allah mentions His creation of the heavens and the earth and what is in between. Why?
Meaning: No one is more misguided than those who invoke gods and idols that do not respond to them because they do not hear nor understand; therefor, it is described as (unaware). Ibn Juzay: 2/331.
Question: Invoking that which does not hear is a form of misguidance and ignorance. Explain in light of this verse.
In describing them as (unaware), Allah likens them to a person who is heedless of what is said to him. These idols are unable to understand anything of what is said to them, just like a heedless person who does not grasp what he is being told. Allah rebukes those polytheists for their bad judgement and repulsive choice of their worship of that which does not reason or understand. Al-Tabari: 22/95.
Question: Allah describes their idols as (unaware). Why? What is meant by that?
