ﭴ ٢٣ ٢٣ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸ ﭹ ﭺ ﭻ ﭼ ٢٤ ٢٤ ﭾ
ﭿ ﮀ ﮁ ﮂ ٢٥ ٢٥ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆ ٢٦ ٢٦ ﮈ
ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ ٢٧ ٢٧ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐ ﮑ ٢٨ ٢٨ ﮓ
ﮔ ﮕ ﮖ ﮗ ﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ٢٩ ٢٩ ﮜ
ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢ ٣٠ ٣٠ ﮤ ﮥ ﮦ ﮧ
ﮨ ﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ٣١ ٣١ ﮭ ﮮ ﮯ ﮰ ﮱ
ﯓ ٣٢ ٣٢ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ﯛ ٣٣ ٣٣
ﯝ ﯞ ﯟ ٣٤ ٣٤ ﯡ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ
ﯨ ٣٥ ٣٥ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ٣٦ ٣٦ ﯰ
ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ
ﯼ ٣٧ ٣٧ ﯾ ﯿ ﰀ ﰁ ﰂ ﰃ ﰄ
٣٨ ٣٨ ﰆ ﰇ ﰈ ﰉ ﰊ ﰋ ﰌ ﰍ ٣٩ ٣٩
وَإِن لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُواْ لِي فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ ٢١ فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمٞ مُّجۡرِمُونَ ٢٢
Meaning: Then, let us leave one another alone and live in peace until Allah judges between us. After Moses (u) had stayed among them for a long time, and the proof of Allah had been established against them, but that only increased them in disbelief and stubbornness, he prayed to his Lord against them, a prayer that was answered. Ibn Kathir: 4/143.
Question: What made Moses pray to Allah against them after he had preached them?
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ
Meaning: They had no righteous deeds which used to ascend through the gates of the heavens that would weep for them when they died, and they had no places on earth where they used to worship Allah which would notice their loss. Hence, they did not deserve to be given a respite, because of their disbelief, sin, transgression, and stubbornness. Ibn Kathir: 4/144.
Question: What is the reason that makes the heavens and earth weep for the servants?
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ ٢٩
This is a proclamation of disregard for their demise. The interpreters said: They did not do righteous deeds on earth so that it would weep for them, and no good deed for them had ever ascended through the heavens so that that it would weep for them. This means that none of the inhabitants of the earth and heavens was affected by their demise. Al-Shawkani: 4/575.
Question: Describe the insignificance of the polytheists in light of this verse.
وَلَقَدِ ٱخۡتَرۡنَٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عَلَى ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٣٢ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٞاْ مُّبِينٌ ٣٣
The tribe of Quraish used to take pride in worldly ornaments and consider them as a sign of Allah’s pleasure with them while considering indigence a fall into misery and a sign of being far from Allah. Therefore, Allah responded to their claim by stating that which He had given to the Children of Israel despite their weakness and miserable life after eradicating Pharaoh and his people. Al-Biqai: 7/76.
Question: Is prosperity in worldly life a sign of Allah’s pleasure with the rich? Is indigence a sign of Allah's displeasure with the poor?
أَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٖ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ ٣٧
After presenting them with the example of the destruction of Pharaoh, Allah presents another example that is closer to them, who are the people of Tubba. Arabs used to hear about the grave destruction of Tubba (a king) and his people in Yemen. During their travel, many Arabs had witnessed the ruins of their kingdom, which indicated their great power, and conversed about their demise by the flood of the dam (Arim). Ibn Ashur: 25/308.
Question: What is the use of presenting the example of the people of Tubba?
أَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٖ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ ٣٧
Meaning: Is the tribe of Quraish more powerful than the people of Tubba and the disbelievers before them? As We had destroyed the people of Tubba and others when they denied, We are quite capable of destroying these people [Quraish]. This was meant as a threat to them. Ibn Juzay: 2/324.
Question: Clarify the threat in this verse.
وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ ٣٨ مَا خَلَقۡنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٣٩
Because of their lack of knowledge, they dare to disobey Allah and spread corruption on earth, as they do not hope for reward nor do they fear punishment. Al-Biqai: 7/79.
Question: What dares the servant to pursue sins and corruption? What drives a person to stay on a straight path and righteousness?
