(People of understanding), are those of sound minds. This is an allusion to those who were not reminded by the Quran that they were not of those who have sound minds. Moreover, those who are reminded are the Muslims who listen to speech and follow the best of it. They are the ones who reflected on its verses and deduced meanings of which they were not aware, while the disbelievers turned away from reflecting on it, and hence, missed being reminded by it. Ibn Ashur: 23/253.
Question: In light of this verse, what is the sign of the people of understanding?

Alhasan said that when the horses were brought to Prophet Solomon (u), he became so absorbed in reviewing them, that he forgot to offer his Asr Prayer (until it disappeared into the veil of darkness), so he became angry for the sake of Allah, and ordered the horses to be slaughtered.
