Omar, Ibn Masoud, Ibn Abbas, Ka'b, Aisha, and most Quran interpreters said: These three categories are among Muhammad’s (ﷺ) Ummah; the one who wrongs himself is the disobedient, the one who is foremost in good deeds is the pious, and the moderate is in between. Ibn Juzay: 2/217
Question: To which Ummah do the above-mentioned three categories belong? What are their qualities?
The phrase (with Allah's permission) refers to those who are foremost in good deeds, lest they become arrogant because of their deeds. It is a reminder that they only became foremost in good deeds with the help of Allah, so they should focus on giving thanks to Allah for the blessings that He has bestowed upon them. Al-Saadi: 689
Question: The phrase (with Allah's permission) refers to those who are foremost in good deeds. Why?
Ibn Abbas said: It is the sorrow of entering Hellfire. Qatadah said: It is the sorrow of death. Muqatil said: They were sad because they did not know what Allah will do to them. Ikrimah said: It is the sorrow for committing sins, and fear of the rejection of their good deeds. Al-Baghawi: 3/626
Question: What made the believers feel sorrow in worldly life, but Allah will take it away in Paradise?
(The everlasting home), it is Paradise, the perpetual residence, where they settle therein and never leave. Ibn Juzay: 2/217.
Question: Paradise is called: The everlasting home. Why?
Meaning: Allah has given us this position and status out of His grace, blessing, and mercy, for our good deeds were not equivalent to this. Ibn Kathir: 3/535.
Question: Can a person enter Paradise based solely on his deeds? Explain in light of this verse.
(Death] is not decreed), they will not die, because if they do, all of their senses will stop, and they will be relieved. Ibn Atiyah: 4/440.
Question: Death will not be decreed for the dwellers of Hellfire. Why?
(We will do righteous deeds), Ibn Abbas said: It means that we will say "None is worthy of worship but Allah alone." Meaning: We will believe instead of disbelief, obey instead of disobedience, and follow the commands of the Messengers. Al-Qurtubi: 17/388.
Question: What will be the righteous deed that the dwellers of Hellfire wish for?
