At the end of this verse, Allah enjoins women to fear Him because they are more likely to be socially adept and less reserved, and Allah knows best. Al-Qurtubi: 18/213.
Question: At the end of this verse, Allah enjoins women to fear Him. Why?
Allah informs His servants about the rank of His servant and Prophet with Him, at the highest assembly of angels, that He praises him with the nearest angels to Him and the angels pray for him. Then, Allah enjoins the inhabitants of the lower world to invoke Allah’s blessings upon him and send him greetings of peace in order for him to have the praise of both worlds, the higher and lower. Ibn Kathir: 3/487.
Question: After He informs us that He confers His blessing upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and the angels pray for him, Allah enjoins to invoke His blessing and greeting upon him. why?
(Those who offend Allah), this does not mean that harm can reach Allah since there is nothing can harm nor benefit Allah, the Almighty. It is said that it means offending the allies of Allah; however, the first interpretation is most probable, since it is narrated in Hadith that Allah says, "The son of Adam slights Me, and he should not slight Me, and he disbelieves in Me, and he ought not to do so. As for his slighting Me, it is that he says that I have a wife and a son; and his disbelief in Me is his statement that I shall not resurrect him as I created him in the beginning." Ibn Juzay: 2/196.
Question: Explain how those disbelievers offended Allah.
The sanctity of the believers is mentioned right after that of the Messenger (ﷺ) as a tribute to them, but they are mentioned separately to indicate that their ranking is lower than that of the Messenger (ﷺ). This digression is mentioned between the Prophet’s (ﷺ) sanctity rules and the etiquettes of his wives, daughters and the believing women. Ibn Ashur: 22/105.
Question: The sanctity of the believers is mentioned right after that of the Messenger (ﷺ). Why?
Allah instructs His Prophet (ﷺ) to instruct women in general to observe hijab, starting with his wives and daughters because the one who instructs others to do something should start with his family before anyone else, as Allah says: (O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire) [66:6]. Al-Saadi: 672.
Question: What is the lesson learned for a preacher and a student of knowledge from this verse?
No mention is made of the evil deed from which they should desist; therefore, this includes whatever thoughts they had in their minds that were calling to evil, whether that was slandering Islam and its followers, scaring the Muslims, undermining their resolve, speaking ill of the believing women and accusing them of immorality, or other sins that are committed by such people. Al-Saadi: 672.
Question: No mention is made of the evil deed that is carried out by the hypocrites. Why?
This indicates that banishing evildoers, who may cause harm by staying among the Muslims, is more effective in putting an end to their evil, and keeping it off. Al-Saadi: 672.
Question: This verse contains a direction to avoid evildoers and keep them off. Explain.
