Meaning: If only you could see the state of the criminals on the Day of Resurrection, you would see a horrible sight. (Lowering their heads): An indication of humiliation, distress, and regret. (Our Lord, we have now seen and heard), our Lord, we now know the truth. Ibn Juzay: 2/178.
Question: On the Day of Resurrection, the criminals will lower their heads. Why?

Meaning: They fall in prostration on their faces in honor of His verses, and in fear of His power and punishment. Al-Qurtubi: 17/27.
Question: How should the Muslim react when reminded of Allah’s verses?

(Their sides forsake their beds), their sides arise from their beds; they abandon their beds at night due to their frequent voluntary prayers, and whoever performed Isha and Fajr prayers in congregation, has done his part of that. Ibn Juzay: 2/179.
Question: What motivates the believers to abandon their beds?

(And aspiration), they aspire to Allah's pleasure that entails His reward. The word (aspiration) is used instead of “hope” to indicate their awareness of their shortcomings, and the fact that they do not think much of their good deeds. Rather, they aspire to receive Allah's bounty without relying on them. Even though they seek Allah’s mercy without a cause, they become more hopeful with a cause, as they never despair of His mercy. Al-Biqai: 15/256.
Question: The word (aspiration) is used instead of "hope", why?

(And spend out of what We have provided for them), when mentioning that they give preference to being closer to Allah over their physical enjoyment, He mentions their same preference when it comes to another enjoyment, which is wealth. Ibn Ashur: 21/229.
Question: This part of the verse: (And spend out of what We have provided for them) comes after mentioning nighttime prayer. Why?

Meaning: No one knows the vastness of what Allah has concealed for them of everlasting joy in Paradise and delights such as no one has ever seen. Because they concealed their good deeds, Allah concealed the reward for them, a befitting recompense that suits their deeds. Al-Hasan Al-Basri said, "Those people concealed their good deeds, hence, Allah concealed for them what no eye has seen and what has never crossed the mind of man." Ibn Kathir: 3/443.
Question: Allah has concealed much of the reward of the people who will be in Paradise. Why?

Every time they want to emerge from it, because the pain has reached such a high degree, they will be driven back into it. Hence, they will lose any hope of relief and will become extremely distressed. Al-Saadi: 656.
Question: This part of the verse indicates the intensity of their punishment. How?
