Meaning: Never let them avert you by their words, lies, and annoyances, pay no heed to them, and go about your affair. Al-Qurtubi: 16/330.
Question: This verse encourages preaching despite daunting difficulties. How?

Do people think they will be left without being tested or afflicted? (Once they say), just by uttering: ("We believe," and they will not be tried), that they will not be tested in their wealth and themselves. No, We will try them to differentiate the sincere from the hypocrite, and the truthful from the liar. Al-Baghawi: 3/461.
Question: Why does Allah try His servants?

This verse was revealed because a group of believers in Makkah were persecuted by the disbelievers from Quraish. As a result, the believers became desperate, so Allah consoled them with this verse, admonished them, and told them that it was a trial in order to change this state of agitation into forbearance against adversity and be steadfast in faith. Allah informs the believers that this is His way with His servants; He empowers the disbelievers over the believers as a test for them in order to make evident who is truthful in his faith and who is a liar. This verse is general in its words and meanings, therefore, it applies to everyone who is afflicted by a trial due to a sin, or has been harmed in himself, his wealth, and akin to that. Question: Given this verse, explain the benefits of trials.

(Those before them), the believing followers of the Prophets (p). They were afflicted with all sorts of trials and adversities, but they endured patiently, and clung to their religion stubbornly, literally: with their molar teeth, as Allah says, (How many prophets along with the devout men fought, but they did not lose heart because of what they suffered in the way of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit) [3:146]. Al-Alusi: 10/340.
Question: One of the ways of Allah is trying the believers. What must the believer do in this case?

Allah certainly knows about them before the trial, but to make evident those who are truthful and those who are liars, so that the eternal knowledge of Allah about them will manifest. Al-Baghawi: 3/462.
Question: Since Allah knows everything, what is meant by (Allah will surely make known)?

Do those whose main concern is doing evil deeds and committing sins think that their deeds will be ignored, and that Allah will be heedless to them, or that they can escape Him, and that is why they did those deeds, and it was easy for them to do so. Al-Saadi: 626.
Question: What makes committing sins easier for the servant?

Meaning of the verse: Whoever hopes for Allah's reward, let him strive patiently in obeying Allah until he meets and is rewarded by Him, as the time appointed by Allah is soon to come. Ibn Juzay: 2/155.
Question: What is required to receive Allah's reward?
