Maryam Verses 0 - 13

وَبَرَّۢا بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ وَلَمۡ يَكُن جَبَّارًا عَصِيّٗا ١٤

(And dutiful to his parents), he hastened to their obedience and love, and never was ungrateful to them. (And he was not a disobedient tyrant), he was not arrogant, nor did he resent obeying Allah and his parents. Moreover, he was humble to Allah and his parents, and acting upon what he was enjoined and refraining from what was forbidden. He never disobeys His Lord or his parents. Al-Tabari: 18/160.
Question: This verse contains two rights. What are they?

Maryam Verses 0 - 15

وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَيۡهِ يَوۡمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوۡمَ يَمُوتُ وَيَوۡمَ يُبۡعَثُ حَيّٗا ١٥

Sufyan bin Uyaynah said: "The loneliest that a man will ever feel is in three situations. First: On the day he is born, he sees himself coming out of what he was in [safe place]. Second: On the day that he dies, he sees beings whom he had never seen before. Third: On the day when he is resurrected, he sees himself in the great gathering. Allah has exclusively honored John, the son of Zachariah, by granting him peace in these situations." Ibn Kathir: 3/111.
Question: Peace upon John (u) is mentioned in these three situations only. Why?

Maryam Verses 0 - 18

قَالَتۡ إِنِّيٓ أَعُوذُ بِٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيّٗا ١٨

Reminding him of Allah; this is what is ordained in pushing against evil. It is warded off by using the easier way first, thus, the first thing she did was trying to make him fear Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. Ibn Kathir: 3/113.
Question: What is the ideal approach for fending off aggression against oneself?

Maryam Verses 0 - 18

قَالَتۡ إِنِّيٓ أَعُوذُ بِٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيّٗا ١٨

Mary (o) mentioned Allah's attribute (the Most Merciful), because she wanted Allah to be merciful to her by warding off what she thought was an evil person. Ibn Ashur: 16/81.
Question: Mary singled out Allah's attribute (the Most Merciful) for mention. Why?

Maryam Verses 0 - 21

وَلِنَجۡعَلَهُۥٓ ءَايَةٗ لِّلنَّاسِ

That will point to the perfect might of Allah, and highlight the fact that no cause can lead to its effect independently of Allah, rather, the effect comes about by the decree of Allah. Hence, Allah shows His servants extraordinary events concerning some ordinary causes or means, lest they become attached to these means, and ignore the One Who controls and decrees them. Al-Saadi: 491.
Question: The story of Mary and her son makes people's hearts become attached only to Allah with disregard to worldly means. Explain.

Maryam Verses 0 - 25

وَهُزِّيٓ إِلَيۡكِ بِجِذۡعِ ٱلنَّخۡلَةِ تُسَٰقِطۡ عَلَيۡكِ رُطَبٗا جَنِيّٗا ٢٥

This verse is quoted as evidence by some people that one should strive for his provision since Allah has commanded Mary to shake the trunk of the palm tree. Ibn Juzay: 2/6.
Question: It is inferred from this verse that one should strive for his provision. Explain

Maryam Verses 25 - 26

وَهُزِّيٓ إِلَيۡكِ بِجِذۡعِ ٱلنَّخۡلَةِ تُسَٰقِطۡ عَلَيۡكِ رُطَبٗا جَنِيّٗا ٢٥ فَكُلِي وَٱشۡرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيۡنٗاۖ

Some scholars inferred from this verse that the best food for a postnatal woman is ripe dates. Al-Rabi bin Khuthaym and others said: "If there was better a food suited for a postnatal woman than ripe dates, Allah would have fed Mary after delivering Jesus (u)." Al-Shanqiti: 3/399.
Question: This verse presents good medical approach. What is it?
