An-Nahl Verses 0 - 111

يَوْمَ تَأْتِى كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ تُجَٰدِلُ عَن نَّفْسِهَا وَتُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ ١١١

(On the Day when each soul will come pleading for itself), arguing and protesting for himself over what he had done of good and evil deeds; totally occupied with himself and not concerned about others. Al-Baghawi: 2/641.
Question: When will a person be totally occupied with himself and not concerned about others?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 112

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ ءَامِنَةً مُّطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانٍۢ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلْجُوعِ وَٱلْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصْنَعُونَ ١١٢

In this verse, safety precedes security since security does not exist without safety, moreover, fear causes anxiety and worry. Ibn Ashur: 14/305.
Question: In this verse, safety precedes security. Why?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 112

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ ءَامِنَةً مُّطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانٍۢ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلْجُوعِ وَٱلْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصْنَعُونَ ١١٢

In the original Arabic text, it is called "the garment of hunger and fear" because feebleness, paleness, and misery were clearly showing on them like a garment. Al-Qurtubi: 12/452.
Question: Allah calls the hunger and fear by which destroyed nations were punished a garment. Why?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 112

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ ءَامِنَةً مُّطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانٍۢ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلْجُوعِ وَٱلْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصْنَعُونَ ١١٢

Allah made them an example and an admonishment to those who would show the same ingratitude for His favors. Ibn Ashur: 14/303.
Question: How do destroyed cities become an example and an admonishment to others?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 115

إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَيۡتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحۡمَ ٱلۡخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيۡرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦۖ

Allah has only forbidden impure things to us by His grace, to protect us from everything that is repellent. Al-Saadi: 451.
Question: What is the reason for the prohibition of some food items?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 116

وَلَا تَقُولُواْ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَٰلٞ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٞ لِّتَفۡتَرُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفۡتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ لَا يُفۡلِحُونَ ١١٦

This includes anyone who comes up with an innovation in religion (Bid'ah) for which he has no evidence from Sharia. Ibn Kathir: 2/570.
Question: This verse indicates the prohibition of innovation in religious matters. How?

An-Nahl Verses 0 - 116

وَلَا تَقُولُواْ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَٰلٞ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٞ لِّتَفۡتَرُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفۡتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ لَا يُفۡلِحُونَ ١١٦

This verse addresses the Arabs who were -during the times of ignorance- used to make some things lawful and other things unlawful, such as Al-Bahira [a she-camel whose milk was spared for the sake of the idols] and others that are mentioned in Surahs, Al-Ma'idah and Al-An'am. Moreover, this verse includes anyone who says, (This is lawful) and (This is unlawful) without proper knowledge. Ibn Juzay: 1/476.
