Alhasan said: When the polytheists see the believers enter Paradise not Hellfire, they will wish that they had been Muslims. Al-Qurtubi: 12/176.
Question: When will the disbeliever wish that he had been a Muslim?
False hope is an incurable chronic disease, and when it settles in the heart, it becomes so corrupted that treatment and remedy will be of no use, and doctors and wise men will give up in despair. The reality of false hope is the greed and love for the adornments of this life and turning away from the life of the Hereafter. Al-Qurtubi: 12/189.
Question: What is the terrible disease against which Allah warned us in this verse?
In this verse, there is an indication that pursuing joy and pleasures in this life while not being ready for the life of the Hereafter is not a trait of one who seeks salvation. Alhasan said: A servant who has false hope will do evil deeds. Ali bin Abi Talib (t) said: I fear for you two things, false hope and following whims; false hope causes you to forget the Hereafter, and following whims turns you away from the truth. Al-Alusi: 14/341.
Question: False hope results in many harms. Explain in light of this verse.
Meaning: Since you have not brought the angels, then you are not telling the truth. This was the ultimate unfairness and ignorance. As for being unfair, that is obvious, because this was insolence toward Allah and stubbornness in demanding specific signs that He had not chosen to send since the aim was achieved, and proof was established by means of many other signs that pointed to the soundness of the message He brought. As for ignorance, they could not differentiate between what was in their best interests and what was detrimental to their interests. There was nothing good for them in the angels coming down; rather, Allah does not send down the angels except for just cause, after which there is no respite for anyone who does not follow the truth or submit to it. Al-Saadi: 429.
Question: There is unfairness and ignorance in their request to bring the angels. Explain.
Meaning: In which there is a reminder of all things and clear proof, by means of which a person will be reminded if he wants to be reminded. Al-Saadi: 429.
Question: The Quran is described as a (reminder). Why?
Preserving the Quran means protecting it against changes and distortion as it was done to the previous Scriptures. Allah protected the Quran so that no one could add, delete, or distort it in contrast to previous Scriptures of which their protection was entrusted to their followers as Allah says, (because they were entrusted to protect the Scripture of Allah) [5:44]. Ibn Juzay: 1/450.
Question: What is the difference between the Quran and the previous Scripters with respect to being preserved from change?
Mujahid said: The angels are sent down with either the Message or destruction. They are sent down to the Messengers with the true words, and to those who had been warned with the true actions of destruction or deliverance. Al-Biqai: 4/206.
Question: What is the truth for which the angels come down?
