Their saying, (Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure) was making a mockery of them and their purity while they themselves were being proud of their heinous acts of shame. This is similar to some crooked men who would criticize a good person when he advises them, by saying: "let us get away from this abstinent ," or "remove this ascetic from here." Al-Qasimi: 5/139.
Question: What is the sign of reversed logic of some minds?
Ibn Al-Qayim said: Their saying, (Evict them from your city. Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure) is similar to what Allah describes the makers of the Trench: (Their only grievance against them was that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy) [85:8]. As such is the polytheist whose only grievance against the believer is his devotion to the Oneness of Allah, and the religious innovator whose only grievance against the Sunni is his following of the Messenger (ﷺ) and not men's opinions. Hence, the patience of the follower of the Messenger (ﷺ) with the grievance of religious innovators is better, more useful, and easier than enduring the displeasure of Allah and His Messenger with those who follow the polytheists and religious innovators. Al-Qasimi: 5/141.
Question: How does the believer counter the mockery of the disbelievers?
Defrauding is undervaluing goods by negative description to make them unattractive to others, and conning others out of the rightful weights and measures of their goods. All of that is considered as consuming people's wealth unlawfully, which is forbidden in all past nations by their Messengers (). Al-Qurtubi: 1/333.
Question: What is defrauding of property?
(And do not spread corruption in the land), through disbelief and transgression. (After it has been set aright) after the Prophets and their righteous followers reformed its affairs with their Sharias by setting the just weights and measures, and prescribing legal punishments and rules. Al-Qasimi: 5/147.
Question: What is the worst type of corruption on earth?
(And do not sit on every path, threatening), Ibn Abbas () said: "A path is a road to their city where they used to sit and turn people away from Prophet Shu'ayb (), saying that he was a liar so do not let him dissuade you from your religion." Al-Tabari: 12/557.
Question: There are similarities between defaming tactics used against those who call others to Allah in the past and the present. Explain.
Prophet Shu'ayb () forbade his people from blocking the paths physically and in spiritual sense, saying, (And do not sit on every path, threatening), threatening people with death if they do not give up their money. (And averting from the way of Allah those who believe in Him, seeking to make it [seem] deviant), which means that you seek to make the path of Allah seem crooked and deviated. Ibn Kathir: 2/222.
Question: There are two types of blocking a path. What are they?
Meaning: Allah caused you to grow in number by blessing you with wives, offspring and good health, and He did not test you with epidemics or fatal diseases that would reduce your numbers, nor did He empower your enemies over you to eradicate you, nor caused you to be scattered in the land; rather, He blessed you by keeping you together, bestowing abundant provision on you and granting you numerous offspring. Al-Saadi: 296.
Question: This verse indicates many blessings. Explain.
