It was reported that Prophet Muhammad (r) ransomed captives and ordered their release. This was the practice of Muslims, and consensus was reached on this issue. It is mandatory to ransom captives using public funds from the public treasury. If it is not paid, then it is an obligation on all Muslims, but if it is fulfilled by some of them, it will suffice. Al-Qurtubi: 2/242.
Question: What is our duty toward Muslim captives around the world?
This presents the strongest evidence that faith requires acting upon commands and heeding prohibitions, and that ordained deeds are part of faith. Al-Saadi: 58.
Question: Using this verse, how do you respond to someone who claims to have faith but does not act?
Allah states the reason why they disbelieved in part of the Scripture and believed in another: (Those are the ones who have bought the life of this world [in exchange] for the Hereafter). Al-Saadi: 58.
Question: What is the reason that some people believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in another?
Strengthening with the Holy Spirit (Gabriel) applies to all those who support the Messengers against the disbelievers whether polytheists or people of the Book (Jews and Christians). Ibn Taimyah: 1/268.
Question: Who does Allah strengthen with the Holy Spirit?
In the Arabic text, the word used for (desire) is "Hawa", which means "falling into something." It is called that because desires eventually make a person fall into Hellfire; therefore, the word, "Hawa" is used only for what is false and without virtue. Al-Qurtubi: 2/245.
Question: To where does "Hawa" lead its follower?
They told Prophet Muhammad (r) that their hearts were wrapped by impenetrable cover preventing his teaching from reaching them in order to make him despair of their acceptance and completely cut off his hope for them, so Allah, the Almighty distanced them from His mercy. Al-Alusi: 1/318.
Question: What did the Jews mean by saying: (Our hearts are wrapped)? And what was their punishment?
(But, in fact), Allah repudiates their claim of "wrapped hearts", rather (Allah has cursed them), the greatest King has expelled them from accepting the truth, for they are not worthy of guidance after Allah had created them on the true nature (Fitrah) without wrapped hearts. Cursing entails banishment morally and physically. Al-Biqai: 1/182.
Question: Allah cursed them and expelled them from His mercy. Why?
