Those whom the covenant was taken from them by Allah thought that He would not test them with hardships because they were deceived by their claim of being Allah’s children and beloved ones. In fact, they were deceived by the long respite. Al-Qurtubi: 8/97.
Question: What caused them not to abide by Allah's command?

(Then Allah forgave them), Allah brought the Jews back to truth and obedience. This is an example of the eloquent style of the Holy Quran that attributes this honorable deed to Allah while ascribing blindness and deafness, which are misguidance, to them. Ibn Atiyah: 2/221.
Question: This verse shows Allah's Grace to His servants, and their ignorance of what is good for them. Explain.

Allah states the disbelief of the Christians when they said: (Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary) on the basis of the specious argument that he was born to a mother without a father, and thus was born in a manner different from the regular ordained manner decreed by Allah. In fact, Jesus () rejected this claim, and said to them, (O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord) thus, he affirmed his total servitude to Allah, and confirmed that his Lord is the Lord of all created beings. Al-Saadi: 240.
Question: The statement of Jesus is mentioned after the statement of the Christians. Why?

(Why do they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness) shows that repentance is the ceasing of the sins from now onward, returning to the true belief, and seeking forgiveness of the sins of the past and regretting false beliefs. Ibn Ashur: 6/284.
Question: Repentance and seeking forgiveness are combined in this verse. Why?

Allah forgives the sins of those who repent, even if their sins were to reach the sky, and He bestows mercy upon them by accepting their repentance and replacing their bad deeds with good deeds. The call to repentance begins with a very gentle approach, as Allah says, (Why do they not repent to Allah). Al-Saadi: 240.
Question: For one who preach to Allah, how can he benefit from this verse?

(A woman of truth), she was abundantly truthful. It is also said that she was called that because she believed in the signs of her Lord as Allah says, (She firmly believed in the words of her Lord) [66:12]. Al-Baghawi: 1/699.
Question: Mary (o) is called a woman of truth. Why?

This clearly indicates that they were two weak servants who were in need of the same as all other children of Adam, namely food and drinks, needed. If they had been gods, they would have had no need of food, drinks, or anything else, because the true God is the One Who is independent of means, the Praiseworthy. Al-Saadi: 240.
Question: The need for food is a proof that Jesus and his mother, Mary, are not gods. Explain.
