Hardship means overburden or difficulty. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The religion of Allah is easy." Ibn Juzay: 1/229.
Question: This verse mentions a quality that Allah loves. What is it?
Muhammad bin Ka'b Al-Qarthi (a prominent scholar) said: "The completion of His favor is absolving the believers of their sins by performing ablution." Al-Baghawi: 1/647.
Question: How does the completion of Allah's favor happen to one who performs ablution?
Outward purification with water or dust is meant to be complementary to inward purification which is attained by affirming the Oneness of Allah (Tawhīd) and sincere repentance. Al-Saadi: 224.
Question: What is meant by completing His favor upon us with purification?
Here, Allah instructs His servants to remember His spiritual and worldly blessings, in their hearts and words, because constant remembering of blessings motivates one to give thanks to Allah, to love Him, and have heartfelt gratitude to Him. This dispels self-admiration with regard to acquiring spiritual blessings, and leads to the increase of the bounty and generosity of Allah. Al-Saadi: 224.
Question: What is the benefit of constantly remembering the blessings of Allah?
Meaning: Allah knows what your hearts conceal of ideas, secrets and passing thoughts; so, beware lest He sees in your hearts that which is not pleasing to Him, or there come out of you that which He dislikes. Al-Saadi: 224.
Question: What is the practical benefit of knowing that Allah is aware of the contents of our hearts?
Tell the truth when you testify without favoring a relative or being unjust to an enemy. Al-Qurtubi: 7/372.
Question: How does a believer stand firm for the truth?
Allah forbids Muslims from being unjust in dealing with the wrongdoers among the disbelievers, despite feeling hatred toward the disbelievers, which Allah ordained. How about a hatred for a Muslim which is based on suspicions or whims? A Muslim is definitely worthier of justice. Ibn Taimyah: 2/456.
Question: This verse indicates that being just to others is of a great importance to Allah. Explain in light of this verse.
