(And Allah is Knowing of all things) means that He Knows the outcomes and benefits of all matters, what is best for His servants and what each relative deserves commensurate with his kinship relation to the deceased. Ibn Kathir: 1/566.
Question: This verse concludes with: (And Allah is Knowing of all things). Why?

Of the Holy Quran, Surat Al-Ma'idah is the most comprehensive with regard to the details of Sharia laws; the lawful and the unlawful, the commands and the interdictions.Ibn Taimyah: 2/391.
Question: What distinguishes Surat Al-Ma'idah from other Surahs of the Holy Quran?

Toward the end of Surat An-Nisa, Allah states that when the Jews broke the covenants with him, He prohibited them from good things that were lawful for them. Hence, it is fitting to begin Surat Al-Ma'idah by commanding the believers to fulfill their obligations wholeheartedly. Al-Biqai: 2/384.
Question: What is the link between Surat Al-Nisa and Surat Al-Ma'idah?

Allah ordains what is lawful and what is unlawful, etc; some of which you know the wisdom behind them while others you do not, so seek to learn the wisdom from Him. Al-Biqai: 2/387.
Question: When abiding by the commands of Allah, do you have to know the wisdom behind them? Explain.

Do not let the hatred of a people lead you to transgress against them for having obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Haram. The above verse was revealed at the conquest of Makkah when the Muslims overpowered the polytheists and wanted to decimate them for preventing them from entering Makkah during the year of Al-Hudaybiyah, but Allah interdicted the Muslims from killing them. Ibn Juzay: 1/223.
Question: The importance of justice is clear in this verse. Explain.

Al-Mawardi (a prominent scholar) said: Allah recommends cooperating in righteousness and combines it with piety to Him because piety is pleasing to Allah, and righteousness is pleasing to people. So, whoever combines the pleasure of Allah and the pleasure of people would achieve complete happiness and blessing. Al-Qurtubi: 7/269.
Question: How does one achieve complete happiness? Explain in light of this verse.

(And cooperate in righteousness and piety), this is a general recommendation. The difference between righteousness and piety is that righteousness is more general than piety. Righteousness is performing duties and recommended deeds, and refraining from the forbidden. Piety, however, is performing duties, but not recommended deeds, and refraining from the forbidden. Hence, Righteousness is more general than piety. Ibn Juzay: 1/223.
