Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 50

وَأَغۡرَقۡنَآ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَأَنتُمۡ تَنظُرُونَ ٥٠

We drowned them while you were watching in order to heal your hearts and humiliate your enemy. Ibn Kathir: 1/87.
Question: Pharaoh threatened the believers with crucifixion to get revenge on them, but Allah dealt with him in kind. Explain.

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 51

وَإِذۡ وَٰعَدۡنَا مُوسَىٰٓ أَرۡبَعِينَ لَيۡلَةٗ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذۡتُمُ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ وَأَنتُمۡ ظَٰلِمُونَ ٥١

Night is mentioned because the best communing with Allah is during nighttime. Al-Biqai: 1/133.
Question: (nights) are mentioned rather than "days" for communing with Allah. Why?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 54

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنَّكُمۡ ظَلَمۡتُمۡ أَنفُسَكُم بِٱتِّخَاذِكُمُ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ فَتُوبُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ بَارِئِكُمۡ

The grave sin that they had committed by which they wronged themselves is what Allah mentioned about their apostacy by worshiping a calf after Moses (u) left them. Al-Tabari:2/72.
Question: The absence of scholars and righteous people in society may lead to its deviance. Explain.

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 54

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنَّكُمۡ ظَلَمۡتُمۡ أَنفُسَكُم بِٱتِّخَاذِكُمُ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ

You have made yourselves subservient to a useless (inanimate object) to which your own selves are superior. This is the worst wrongdoing, for it is not fitting for one to be subservient and worship someone like him, then how about worshiping what is less than that, an animal! Not only that, but a gold metal object that resembles an animal. Al-Biqai: 1/134.
Question: Ignorance about the Lordship of Allah is the worst kind of ignorance. Explain.

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 57

وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡغَمَامَ وَأَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ

When Allah, the Almighty, mentioned the punishments from that He had averted from them, He began to remind them of the blessings He had bestowed upon them, saying: (We shaded you with clouds). Ibn Kathir: 1/90.
Question: What is the link between this verse and the preceding verses?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 57

وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡغَمَامَ وَأَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ كُلُواْ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقۡنَٰكُمۡۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ ٥٧

The manna and quails would come down to them in sufficient quantities to nourish them, (Eat from the good things with which We have provided you), that is, provision the like of which even those who dwell in cities and live a life of luxury do not have. But they were not grateful for this blessing, and continued to be hardhearted and committed many sins. Al-Saadi: 49.
Question: What is the reason for the successive and hard punishments on Children of Israel?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 57

وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ ٥٧

In this verse, the expression of wrongdoing is stated in the past tense and past continuous forms to indicate their persistence in wrongdoing and their continuation thereof. Al-Alusi: 1/264.
Question: In this verse, the wrongdoing of Children of Israel is expressed in past tense and past continuous forms. Why?
