Al-Imran Verses 0 - 134

ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ فِي ٱلسَّرَّآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ وَٱلۡكَٰظِمِينَ ٱلۡغَيۡظَ وَٱلۡعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٣٤

After mentioning the hardest thing to give up and spend, which is money, Allah mentions the hardest thing to withhold, and says, (and who restrain), suppress (their anger) and not release it even after they have been filled with it. Al-Biqai: 2/157.
Question: What is the significance of mentioning suppressing anger after mentioning spending?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 134

ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ فِي ٱلسَّرَّآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ وَٱلۡكَٰظِمِينَ ٱلۡغَيۡظَ وَٱلۡعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٣٤

The one who restrains his anger and forgives others does kindness to himself as well as to the people, as whoever does good to others is, in fact, does good to himself. Allah says, (If you do good, it is for your own good but if you do evil, it is to your own loss) [17:7]. Ibn Taimyah: 2/140-141.
Question: Who benefits most from your suppressing your anger and forgiving people? And how?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 134

وَٱلۡكَٰظِمِينَ ٱلۡغَيۡظَ وَٱلۡعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ١٣٤

Meaning: Those who hold back their anger when their souls are filled with it. It is said: " So-and-so swallowed his anger," if he suppresses it and restrains himself from doing what he is capable of doing. Al-Tabari: 7/214.
Question: Extract from the verse one of the qualities of those who hasten to forgiveness and Paradise.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 137

قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ سُنَنٞ فَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ١٣٧

This verse highlights the importance of studying history of the people because it is as useful as traveling through the land, which is becoming aware of the stories of ancient people, and the causes of the rise and fall of nations. Ibn Ashur: 4/97.
Question: Reading the history of past nations is important. Explain in light of this verse.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 138

هَٰذَا بَيَانٞ لِّلنَّاسِ وَهُدٗى وَمَوۡعِظَةٞ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ ١٣٨

The clear statement is to all who understand it, the guidance and admonition are for the righteous. Ibn Taimyah: 2/143.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 139

وَلَا تَهِنُواْ وَلَا تَحۡزَنُواْ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَوۡنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٣٩

(Do not weaken) when fighting against your enemies, who are the enemies of Allah, as Allah is with you against them, even when they first overwhelmed you in the battle of Uhud, but you will see who wins at the end. (And do not grieve) over what has befallen you from them, nor over anything else that may befall you, since you (will be superior) in this life and the Hereafter if you are believers. Al-Biqai: 2/159.
Question: Does a temporary setback for the believers negate their superiority? Explain.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 139

وَلَا تَهِنُواْ وَلَا تَحۡزَنُواْ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَوۡنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٣٩

According to this verse, peace must not be considered with the enemy as long as the Muslims are strong. If, in a certain country, Muslims lack power, then their Ruler should consider what is best for them. Ibn Atiyah: 1/513.
Question: When is it permissible to make peace with the enemy?
