After mentioning the story of battle of Uhud, Allah mentions the story of battle of Badr when Muslims were few in number and equipment, and the disbelievers were extremely strong and powerful, but Allah granted victory to the Muslims, making this one of the strongest proofs that the fruits of reliance on Allah, patience, and piety is victory, help, and support. Al-Qasimi: 2/402.
Question: Why is the story of battle of Badr mentioned after the story of battle of Uhud?

Allah makes clear that by fearing Him and remaining patient, He would send down the angels and give Muslims victory over their enemies. Ibn Taimyah: 2/135.
Question: Fearing Allah and remaining patient are two reasons for the angels to descend to support the believers. Explain.

Meaning: Allah sent down the angels and told you about their descent as glad tidings for you, and to comfort and reassure your hearts. You should know that victory comes only from Allah, and that if He had willed, He could have defeated your enemy without you having to fight them, as He says: (If Allah had willed, He could have subjected them to punishment, but to test some of you by means of others)[47:4]. Ibn Kathir: 1/380.
Question: Does Allah need fighters? What do the fighters benefit from being in Jihad?

(Allah ordained this), His promise and support. (Only as glad tidings), so you will be rejoiced by this good news. (To reassure your hearts), to comfort your hearts so that you will not be dismayed by the large number of your enemy. (Victory only comes from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise), do not attribute victory to the angels and soldiers, as victory comes only from Allah, so seek His help, and entrust all affairs to Him, for glory and judgment belong to Him. Al-Baghawi: 1/415.
Question: What is the only source of victory?

Meaning: Do not rely on the means of victory; rather these means give you some reassurance, but true victory that cannot be overturned comes by the will of Allah; He grants victory to whomever He wills of His servants. If He wills, He will grant victory to those who have the means of attaining victory and are better prepared, as His way with His creation. However, if He wills, He will grant victory to the weaker side to show His servants that the whole matter is in His Hands, and all matters return to Him. Al-Saadi: 146.
Question: What is the benefit in informing Muslims that victory comes solely from Allah?

This verse indicates that the will of Allah prevails over the will of His servants, and that an individual, no matter how high his status, may choose something while the best and most beneficial thing is in another. If the Messenger (r) has no part in the matter, then it is all the more so those who are below him. This is the greatest refutation of those who pin their hopes on Prophets, righteous people and others, and it highlights the fact that doing so is associating others with Allah in worship, and is indicative of a lack of rational thinking, because they turn away from the One Who is in control of all things and turn to those who have no control at all. Al-Saadi: 147.
Question: From this verse, how do you respond to those who cling to Prophets and righteous people beside Allah?

Meaning: Shield yourselves from disobeying His prohibition of consuming usury by turning away from worldly things so you may attain your aspirations. For the One Who has the dominion of all existence is able to bestow His favors upon you when you fear Him, and withhold His favors when you neglect His commands. Al-Biqai: 2/152.
