It is a forbidden to take the disbelievers as confidants. It was said to Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (t): " There is a man here who is a Christian, and no one has better handwriting than him, will you let him write for you?" Omar replied: "Then I will take as a confidant from among those other than the believers." (They spare no effort to ruin you), meaning: They will do everything to spread corruption among you. Ibn Juzay: 1/159.
Question: What do you think of those who take as advisors or employees enemies of Islam, and what are the consequences of that?
A wise person is the one who, when afflicted with the enemy's association, does so only outwardly, and does not reveal anything about his inner self, even if the enemy becomes attached to him and swears that he is one of his allies. Al-Saadi: 144.
Question: When some Muslims have to mix with non-Muslims, what should they do?
They loved your extreme hardship and harm, and signs of enmity toward you appeared from the slips of their tongues and words, and their hearts concealed much greater hatred than what appears from their mouths because it was a slip of the tongue which rarely happens. Al-Alusi: 4/38.
Question: Allah forbids taking helpers from among polytheists. Why?
What is astonishing is that the believers love the disbelievers while disbelievers actually hate the believers. Ibn Ashur: 4/65.
Question: This verse reveals something astonishing. What is it?
Whoever has this characteristic of intense enmity, rancor, and joy at the misfortune of the believers is not worthy of being taken as a confidant, especially in the crucial matter of Jihad, which is the basis of goodness in this world and the Hereafter. Al-Qurtubi: 5/281.
Question: What is the wisdom in prohibiting taking disbelievers and hypocrites as confidants, advisors, or employees?
Patience includes patience with fate. Fearing Allah includes carrying out His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Whoever is blessed with both [patience and fear of Allah], attains the best. Unlike the one who does the opposite by disobeying Allah, using fate as an excuse, and losing patience when afflicted, for this is the state of the wretched. .Ibn Taimyah: 2/133.
Question: Describe the state of the one whom Allah has granted patience and fear of Him, and another who has been deprived of them.
Meaning: You arranged them and placed each in his appropriate place. This is a great praise for the Prophet (r), as he is the one who oversees their placement in the battlefields. This was due to his perfect knowledge, wisdom, foresightedness, and high resolve, as he took care of these matters himself with complete courage, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him. Al-Saadi: 145.
Question: The verse contains a praise for the Prophet (r). Explain.
