Al-Imran Verses 0 - 78

وَإِنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ لَفَرِيقٗا يَلۡوُۥنَ أَلۡسِنَتَهُم بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ

What should be done is to preserve the words of the Scripture as they are and not change them, to understand their meanings properly and help others to do likewise. But these people did the opposite of that, and they gave an impression of incorrect meanings of the Scripture, either implicitly or explicitly. Al-Saadi: 136.
Question: This verse identified a type of distortion to the Scripture. Explain.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 78

وَإِنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ لَفَرِيقٗا يَلۡوُۥنَ أَلۡسِنَتَهُم بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٧٨

In this verse, the present tense is used for these actions: (Alter) and (Say), to show that it is a continuing action that has become a habit for them. Ibn Ashur: 3/292.
Question: The present tense is used to express their actions in the verse. Why?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 78

وَإِنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ لَفَرِيقٗا يَلۡوُۥنَ أَلۡسِنَتَهُم بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لِتَحۡسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Alteration was defined as: Distorting the words and distorting the meaning. Distorting the meaning is very common, and it had occurred even in this nation (Muslims) by some deviated groups. As for distorting the words, it had also occurred with many people who alter the words of Hadiths of the Prophet (r), and use inadmissible narrations. Ibn Taimyah: 2/86.
Question: Alteration of the revelation can be done in two ways. What are they?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 79

وَلَٰكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّٰنِيِّۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُونَ ٧٩

Wise scholars are ones who follow the path of Allah, affiliated with Him through perfect knowledge and deeds. The wise scholar is extremely devoted to Allah's religion and His obedience. Al-Biqai: 2/118.
Question: What are the traits of wise scholars?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 79

وَلَٰكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّٰنِيِّۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُونَ ٧٩

(Wise scholars): Saeed bin Jubair said: A wise scholar is one who practices what he preaches. It was also said that wise scholars are at a higher level than rabbis who are scholars; however, wise scholars combine knowledge and insight for leading people. Al-Baghawi: 1/357.
Question: How does one become a wise scholar?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 79

وَلَٰكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّٰنِيِّۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُونَ ٧٩

The benefit of study is knowledge, and the benefit of knowledge is putting it into practice, which is urge to do good deeds and being conscious of Allah. Al-Biqai: 2/118.
Question: What are the benefits of studying and seeking knowledge?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 81

وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلنَّبِيِّۧنَ لَمَآ ءَاتَيۡتُكُم مِّن كِتَٰبٖ وَحِكۡمَةٖ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولٞ مُّصَدِّقٞ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥۚ قَالَ ءَأَقۡرَرۡتُمۡ وَأَخَذۡتُمۡ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمۡ إِصۡرِيۖ قَالُوٓاْ أَقۡرَرۡنَاۚ قَالَ فَٱشۡهَدُواْ وَأَنَا۠ مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ ٨١

It was narrated that Ali bin Abi Talib and Ibn Abbas and others have said: Not a Messenger sent by Allah since the time of Noah (u) except that he took a covenant with Allah that if Prophet Muhammad (r) is sent while he is still alive, then he must believe and support him. Moreover, he was also commanded by Allah to take the same covenant of his people to do the same. Ibn Taimyah: 2/88.
Question: Explain the high status of Prophet Muhammad (r).
