ﮯ ٢٢ ٢٢ ﮱ ﯓ ﯔ ٢٣ ٢٣ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ﯛ
٢٤ ٢٤ ﯝ ﯞ ﯟ ٢٥ ٢٥ ﯡ ﯢ ٢٦ ٢٦ ﯤ ﯥ
ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ٢٧ ٢٧ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ٢٨ ٢٨ ﯮ ﯯ
ﯰ ﯱ ٢٩ ٢٩ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ٣٠ ٣٠
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ١ عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٢
Allah mentions their inquiry and that it was about (the momentous news). He presents their query in an interrogative form to attract their attentions and draw their minds to it, then, He explains it in a way that reveals its greatness and immensity; as if saying: What are they asking about? Should I tell you? Then, the answer comes: (About the momentous news). Al-Shawkani: 5/363.
Question: This Surah begins with an inquiry. Why?
ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ ٣
Allah says, (they are in disagreement), and did not say, "they disagreed" because, in Arabic, the former is a noun clause indicating that their disagreement about this momentous news was continuous and permanent. Ibn Ashur: 30/11.
Question: In this verse, a noun clause is used instead of a verbal clause. Why?
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا ٦ وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا ٧ وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ٨ وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا ٩ وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا ١٠ وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا ١١ وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا ١٢ وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا ١٣ وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا ١٤
Allah, the Almighty, mentions these superlative and inimitable creatures as an argument against their denial of resurrection; as if saying: The God Who created these great creatures is surely capable of resurrecting people after death. Ibn Juzay: 1/2541
Question: Allah mentions these great creatures to make a point. Explain.
وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا ٩
Meaning: So that you may cease your work which, if you did not stop, would cause you physical harm, hence, Allah has caused the night and sleep to overtake people, so that their harmful physical activities may cease and they may attain some needed rest. Al-Saadi: 906.
Question: Sleep is a blessing from Allah upon His servants. How?
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا ٢١
Meaning: No one will enter Paradise until he passes over the Hellfire. If he has what it takes to pass, he will be saved, otherwise he will be held back. Ibn Kathir: 4/464.
Question: What is understood from this verse?
وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا ٢٩
Small and great, good and evil, (in a record), which means that We have recorded it in the Preserved Tablet, so the evildoers should not be concerned that We will punish them for sins that they never did, or think that any of their deeds will go to waste or that even an atom's weight of them will be forgotten. Al-Saadi: 907.
Question: What is the wisdom behind recording the servants' deeds?
فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ٣٠
Abdulla bin Amr said: No verse was revealed about the dwellers of the Fire more intense than this (So taste, and never will We increase you except in torment) so, they will be in more torment forever. Al-Tabari: 24/169.
Question: What is the most intense verse about the dwellers of the Fire?
