Al-Ma'arij Verses 11 - 14

Allah, the Almighty, begins by mentioning the children, the wife, and the brother, to inform His servants of the great calamities in which the disbeliever will be on the Day of Resurrection that he wishes to ransom himself with the most beloved and closest people to him. Al-Tabari: 23/606.
Question: Allah mentions man's relatives in a certain order. Why?

Al-Ma'arij Verses 19 - 22

A human soul is inherently a pursuer and a striver, and when is not directed toward a righteous cause, it will pursue an evil one and engage in bad deeds. Allah says, (Indeed, mankind was created impatient ` When evil befalls him, he bewails ` And when good fortune comes his way, he becomes tight-fisted ` Except those who pray). Allah says that man is created as such, and whoever acts differently, is because of Allah's favor and bounty. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/196.
Question: When you know that every person has a will, what should be your duty?

Al-Ma'arij Verses 19 - 22

Allah mentions these human characteristics as a rebuke to those who have them, and that is why He makes an exception for those who pray because their prayers induce them to have little regard for worldly life, so they do not bewail its evil, nor withhold its fortune. Ibn Juzay: 2/49.
Question: Allah makes an exception for those who pray from being impatient. Why?

Al-Ma'arij Verses 0 - 27

Meaning: They are fearful for themselves despite having done good deeds, however, they belittle their deeds and hold the position of Allah in the highest regard, as Allah says, (And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord)[23:60]. Al-Alusi: 15/71.
Question: When the servant is more fearful of Allah, his righteous deeds increase. Explain in light of this verse.

Al-Ma'arij Verses 0 - 33

Allah alone is worshiped through all types of worships, which is a manifestation of the testimony to the Oneness of Allah. That is why He has forbidden the Fire punishment of one who testifies to His Oneness truthfully. It will not be possible for one who manifests true adherence to this testimony to enter the Fire, as Allah says, (And who are upright in their testimonies). Hence, he is upright in his testimony inwardly and outwardly, as some people have dead testimonies, while others are heedless but when alerted, they become heedful. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/197.
Question: How is the manifestation of the testimony to the Oneness of Allah realized?

Al-Ma'arij Verses 23 - 34

The mention of prayer is repeated because, in the first verse, Allah describes their constancy of prayer, where they are not distracted from it by anything else. In the second verse, Allah mentions their maintenance of prayer, where they observe all of its pillars, conditions, and sunnah. Al-Shawkani: 5/293.
Question: The mention of prayer is repeated. Why?

Al-Ma'arij Verses 0 - 39

The meaning of this verse comprises three aspects, first: Showing the reality of man's origins as a response to those who are arrogant. Second: Responding to the disbelievers who wish to enter Paradise, as if saying: We created you from the same substance that all people have been created from, hence, all people are equal, and no one will enter Paradise except with righteous deeds. Third: A proof of resurrection; since Allah created them from a weak fluid, then He is certainly capable of resurrecting them, as He says, (Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?)[75:37]. Ibn Juzay: 2/495.
Question: The meaning of this verse comprises three aspects, What are they?
