Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 1

يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡمَلِكِ ٱلۡقُدُّوسِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ١

In this Surah, the verb (glorifies) is in the present tense, while in other Surahs it is in the past tense, to allude to the importance of Al-Jumu'ah prayer and denounce those who interrupted their prayer and went for some merchandise or amusement. Hence, it is pertinent to assert all that is in the heavens and earth glorifies Allah constantly and without interruption, unlike those who did not complete Al-Jumu'ah prayer. Ibn Ashur: 28/206.
Question: In this Surah, the verb (glorifies) is in the present tense, while in other Surahs it is in the past tense. Why?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 1

يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

Allah states that everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies His praises, including all types of living creatures and inanimate objects. Ibn Kathir: 4/363.
Question: Do only speaking creatures glorify Allah?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 2

Reciting is mentioned first because conveying the revelation begins with reciting. Purification comes second since calling others to Allah entails purifying their souls from the impurity of polytheism and relevant evil words, actions, and habits. Teaching comes next because it is after receiving the Book, that its aims and meanings are explained and clarified. Ibn Ashur: 28/209.
Question: The statement begins with reciting, purifying, then, teaching the Book and Wisdom. Why?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 2

The ultimate intent behind this Book [the Quran] is to have deep understanding and practice. It is to have knowledge that is revered by putting it into practice and actions that are perfected through the knowledge which is based on revelation and reason. With that, its followers place everything, firmly, where it belongs so that they do not deviate like the Children of Israel did and share their example of a donkey carrying books. If the Prophet (ﷺ) did not have any miracle except the Quran, it would still be considered the ultimate miracle. Al-Biqai: 20/51.
Question: When does a Muslim attain a complete benefit from the Quran?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 5

Allah admonishes the Jews who were entrusted with the Torah and ordered to adhere to it, but they did not, hence, Allah likens them to (a donkey who carries volumes of books). Surely, when the donkey carries books, it does not understand what these books contain because it is only carrying them physically. This is the example of those who were entrusted with the Torah; they memorized its words but did not understand their meanings, nor abided by them. Ibn Kathir: 4/364.
Question: For one who memorizes the Quran, but does not understand, reflect or practice it, can he be considered among the people of the Quran?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 5

مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ يَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢاۚ

Even though this example is made about the Jews, its meaning may apply to those who learned the Quran, then neglected to practice its teachings, did not revere it, or observe it faithfully. Al-Qasimi: 9/22.
Question: Does this example apply only to the people of the Torah?

Al-Jumu'ah Verses 0 - 5

مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُواْ ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَحۡمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡحِمَارِ يَحۡمِلُ أَسۡفَارَۢاۚ

Maimun bin Mahran said: A donkey does not know what is carrying on its back: A book or trash, and so do the Jews. Al-Shawkani: 5/225.
Question: Maimun bin Mahran's statement likens Jews to a donkey. How?
