Al-Imran Verses 0 - 38

In his request, Zachariah (u) used the word (grant me), which is giving with nothing in return. This is quite suitable in this case since both Zachariah (u) and his wife were incapable of contributing to the coming of their child; he was old and she was barren unable to bear children. Al-Alusi: 3/144.
Question: In his request, Zachariah used the word (grant me). Why?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 39

The scholars differed as to why he was named "Yahia," [Its Arabic meaning is one who lives]. Ibn Abbas (t) said: It is because Allah revived with him the barrenness of his mother. Qatadah said: It is because Allah revives his heart with faith. It was also said that he was named "Yahia" because he was martyred, and martyrs are alive. Al-Baghawi: 1/348.
Question: Allah named the child of Zachariah "Yahia". Why?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 41

(O my Lord! Give me a sign) Meaning: A sign that this child will come. He said: (Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three days except by gestures), that is: Your tongue will be prevented from speaking to them, without suffering any physical harm, so you will only be able to communicate by means of gestures, and this is a great sign that you cannot speak. There is an amazing contrast: Just as Allah may prevent causes from leading to effects even when they are present, He may also make things happen without the causes that would lead to them. This serves to demonstrate that all causes and means are subject to His will and decree. Al-Saadi: 130.
Question: The inability of Zachariah (u) to speak and the birth of his child by his barren wife were two great signs from Allah. Explain.

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 42

Allah chose her for her extensive worship of Him, her asceticism, honor and purity from evil thoughts. Ibn Kathir: 1/342.
Question: Why was Mary chosen by Allah?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 43

Bowing means humility and submissiveness to Allah, as if commanding her to do so would keep her from falling into the pitfalls of arrogance and haughtiness due to her high status. Al-Alusi: 3/157.
Question: Why was Mary (o) commanded to prostrate and bow before Allah?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 43

After informing her of her high status and her complete closeness to Allah, the angels commended Mary (o) to be mindful of the prayers, so that she would not slacken or neglect worship. Al-Alusi: 3/156.
Question: The angels said to Mary: (Worship your Lord devoutly, and prostrate and bow with those who bow). What is inferred from that?

Al-Imran Verses 0 - 43

Prostration and bowing are singled out for mention because of their virtue and their indication of the ultimate submission to Allah. Al-Saadi: 130.
Question: Why are prostration and bowing singled out for mention?
