This verse begins and ends with mentioning knowledge, so Ibn Abbas, Ad-Dhahhak, Sufyan Al-Thawri, and Ahmad bin Hanbal said: Allah is with them by means of His knowledge. Ibn Taimyah: 6/241.
Question: How do you infer from this verse (He is with them) that Allah is with them by means of His knowledge?
When they used to come to the Prophet (ﷺ), they would whisper the word "Salam" because it is an Islamic rite that entails the meaning of safety, and replace it with "Good day", which was the Arab's greetings during the times of ignorance because they did not like to give up their old habits. Ibn Ashur: 28/31.
Question: What do you think of the widely used greetings among youth today? What is the best of all greetings?
The ordained spacing is that which is done without standing up, and that is why Allah's Messenger said: "A man should not ask another man to get up from his place in order to take his seat, but you should make room for each other and spread out." Ibn Juzay: 2/422.
Question: Explain the Islamic etiquette enjoined by this verse.
(Allah will make space for you), in your graves. It is said: In your hearts. Moreover, it is said that Allah will make space for you in this life and the Hereafter. Al-Qurtubi: 20/318.
Question: What is meant by (Allah will make space for you)?
The reward is of the same nature as the deed, whoever makes space, Allah will make space for him, and whoever makes room for his brethren, Allah will make room for him. Al-Saadi: 846.
Question: Given this verse, discuss this saying: The requital befits the action.
Meaning: Do not think that if one of you makes room for his brother, or rises up when he is commanded to do so, this will diminish his right or honor. Rather, this will increase his virtue and status with Allah. Ibn Kathir: 4/326.
Question: Does making space for your brethren diminish your right?
Meaning: It is the knowledge with which Allah sent His Prophet (ﷺ), and if the scholars are given the same knowledge, then following them is obligatory. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/143.
Question: How does this verse indicate the importance of following the scholars?
