Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 23

(The one who took his whims as his god), he obeyed his whims until it became his god. Ibn Juzay: 2/328.
Question: How do whims become a god besides Allah?

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 23

This verse contains a scathing rebuke for following one’s own whims. Ibn Abbas said: Every time Allah mentions the whim, it is censured. Wahb said: When you try to decide the best between two courses of action, do the one that is far from your whims. Sahl Al-Tustari said: Your whim is your sickness, but if you go against it, it becomes your medicine. Al-Alusi: 25/209.
Question: How does one deals wisely with his whims and desires for sins?

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 23

This verse cautions the believers against following their whims when performing their good deeds and abandoning the true proofs. When one likes the truth, then it becomes a trait of him to always follow its proof. Just like when the believer loves the prayers, congregation, nighttime prayers during the month of Ramadan, and the recital of the Quran. In one Hadith, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O Bilal, give us comfort by it," which refers to Iqamah for prayer. As for following a desired matter to satisfy one’s own whims without evaluating whether it is good or evil, then this is a cause for misguidance and evil intention. Ibn Ashur: 25/359.
Question: This verse contains a fundamental principle about following one’s own whims. What is it?.

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 25

Due to the high status of the Prophet (ﷺ), Allah honored this Muslim Ummah by not responding to the polytheists' request to bring their forefathers from the dead, as His divine ways entail that whoever does not believe after witnessing a miracle, will surely perish just as was done to former nations. Al-Biqai: 7/106.
Question: Allah honored this Muslim Ummah by not responding to the polytheists’ request to bring their forefathers from the dead. Explain.

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 25

Al-Zamakhshari said: If you wonder why is their statement called an (argument) while, in fact, it is not? I say: Because they presented it as such, hence, it is called an argument in ridicule; or, because they thought it was an argument. It is as if saying: Their only argument is that which is not an argument. The aim is to show their lack of argument at all. Al-Qurtubi: 19/167.
Question: Allah calls their saying: An (argument). Why?

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 28

In fear and panic, awaiting the judgement of the Most Gracious Sovereign. Al-Saadi: 778.
Question: What is the reason for nations to be on their knees on the Day of Resurrection?

Al-Jathiyah Verses 0 - 30

Even though the verses begin with mentioning the people of falsehood, (that Day the people of falsehood will lose), the details, however, started by describing the state of the believers to laud them, hasten their joy, and escalate the misery of the people of falsehood. Ibn Ashur: 25/371.
Question: Allah's honor toward the believers has many manifestations. Describe one in light of this verse.
