Ghafir Verses 44 - 45

وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمۡرِيٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَصِيرُۢ بِٱلۡعِبَادِ ٤٤ فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُواْۖ

This proves that he who entrusts his affairs to Allah, the Glorified and Sublime , Allah will be with him. Ibn Juzay: 2/282.
Question: What is the lesson learned from these two verses for a Muslim?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 45

فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُواْۖ

Meaning: They wanted to afflict him with punishment, but when they searched for him, they could not find him because he entrusted his affairs to Allah. Al-Qurtubi: 18/363.
Question: What happened to the believer from Pharaoh’s house when he entrusted his affairs to Allah?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 45

وَحَاقَ بِـَٔالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٤٥

Drowning is an evil punishment, because a drowning person is tormented by having his breath cutoff for an extended period of time, while floating and going down many times, frightened by the immense waves and certain of his death. Then, he is subject to being eaten alive or dead by predators of the sea, thus, it will be torment in this life and cited disgrace by people after death. Ibn Ashur: 24/158.
Question: Why is drowning described as an evil punishment?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 46

ٱلنَّارُ يُعۡرَضُونَ عَلَيۡهَا غُدُوّٗا وَعَشِيّٗاۚ وَيَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡخِلُوٓاْ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَشَدَّ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٤٦

Their souls will be exposed to the Fire in the morning and evening until the Day when the Hour begins, and when it does, their bodies and souls will be joined in the Fire. That is why Allah says, (and on the Day when the Hour takes place [it will be said], "Admit the people of Pharaoh into the most severe punishment"), the most severe in pain and the greatest shackling. This verse is quoted by Ahl Al-Sunnah as major evidence of the punishment after death in the graves, which is, (The Fire, which they will be exposed to morning and evening). Ibn Kathir: 4/83.
Question: Given this verse, how do you infer that punishment on the souls will occur in the graves?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 47

وَإِذۡ يَتَحَآجُّونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ فَيَقُولُ ٱلضُّعَفَٰٓؤُاْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمۡ تَبَعٗا فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّغۡنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِيبٗا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ ٤٧

This statement by the weak followers to their chiefs has two possible meanings, first: They mean what they say, because during their worldly life, they used to resort to their chiefs in all important matters so they will think that they can do the same for them in this place. Hence, their chiefs, who had been arrogant, will answer them sharing their helplessness and saying, (Indeed, all of us are in it), means, if we are able to save you, we would have saved ourselves. Second: They will say that as a rebuke to their chiefs, which means: You were calling us to the religion of polytheism, which brought us in this punishment, so can you ward off this punishment from us? Ibn Ashur: 24/161.
Question: In this verse, what is the purpose of this statement by the weak followers to their chiefs ?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 48

قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا كُلّٞ فِيهَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ حَكَمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلۡعِبَادِ ٤٨

In this verse, there is a lesson for the heads and leaders of nations. If they imperil themselves and nations while being aware of the consequences, then, they deserve disgrace in this world and multiplied punishment in the Hereafter, as Allah says, (They will certainly bear their own burdens, as well as other burdens along with their own burdens) [29:13]. Moreover, if they pursued headship of their people while being oblivious to the consequences of their incompetence, then, they are blamed for not ascertaining their ability to run the people’s affairs; which leads to acting blindly and resulting in an immense loss for all. Ibn Ashur: 24/163.
Question: In this verse, there is a lesson for the heads and leaders. What is it?

Ghafir Verses 0 - 49

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدۡعُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ يُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا يَوۡمٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٤٩

Using the words, (your Lord) in their speech to the angels is to encourage them to pray for them. Meaning: You are closer to Allah, so He will likely answer your prayer. Thinking that angels’ prayers are more likely to be answered, they ask to lighten for them the punishment for just one day, which is better than reducing the intensity of the Fire from which they ask their chiefs. Ibn Ashur: 24/164.
