Choosing the word, (Opened) to indicate acceptance of Islam, because Islam's teachings, morals, and etiquettes earn the Muslim joy with himself, happiness for his Lord’s pleasure with him, and belittlement of hardships facing him, knowing for certain that he is on his side of truth, will be rewarded for his affliction, hoping for his Lord's mercy in this world and the Hereafter, and no doubts or bewilderment cross his mind. Ibn Ashur: 23/380
Question: Explain the relevancy of using the word, (Opened) to indicate acceptance of Islam.
Malik bin Dinar said: "No servant is punished more severely than one whose heart is hardened, and whenever Allah becomes angry with some people, He removes mercy from them." Al-Baghawi: 4/12
Question: What is the most severe punishment suffered by a servant?
Being harsh with them is a part of being submissive to Allah while being lenient with the people of Allah is a part of fearing Him. In the beginning, Allah commanded His Messenger to be lenient with them to leave them no excuse, and reveal their stubbornness; however, when leniency was exhausted, He commanded Him to be harsh with them. Al-Biqai: 20/206.
Question: When is it required for one to be harsh with disbelievers and the hypocrites?
The Quran is the best message because it contains the best narration of useful meanings, which comprise the essence of faith, Sharia, inference, emphasis on the greatness of the worlds, the creatures, and the wonders of the making of man and his mind. Moreover, it propagates good manners, and calls on the minds to reflect and infer the truth with its articulate wordings and eloquent meanings that are inimitable. Ibn Ashur: 23/385.
Question: The Quran is the best message. Why?
Meaning: Its stories and rulings, and the descriptions of good people and evil people, are repeated, and the names and attributes of Allah are repeated. These meanings and ideas are, for people’s hearts, like water for trees; the less frequently trees are watered, the more they are damaged and they may even be destroyed, but the more frequently they are watered, the better they are and the more beneficial fruit they may bear. In like manner, the heart constantly needs to be reminded of the meanings and ideas in the word of Allah. Similarly, the reader of the Quran should reflect on its meanings and should not omit to reflect on the meanings of all verses, because that is a means of attaining much good and many benefits. Al-Saadi: 723.
Question: What is the wisdom behind the repeated meanings in different places in the Quran?
If one says: Why are the skins mentioned alone first, then they are mentioned with the hearts? The answer is: When Allah says, (shiver), He mentions the skins alone since shivering is the sole attribute of the skins. Then, when He says, (soften), He mentions the skins and hearts since softening is an attribute of both, the skins and hearts. It shivers first from fear, then it softens with hope. Ibn Juzay: 2/268.
Question: Why are the skins mentioned alone first, then they are mentioned with the hearts?
The point of this example is that the relationship of a believer with a disbeliever does not harm the believer if he parted with him in his disbelief and deeds. The sins of others will not harm the obedient believer in the Hereafter. The believer may be subject to a general punishment that befalls the people of the earth when they neglect the commands of Allah. The wife of Pharaoh was never harmed by her ties to Pharaoh, who was the worst of all disbelievers. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/170.
Question: What must the believer do when he finds himself in a relationship with a disbeliever?
On that day, he will be faced with immense punishment and he will try to shield himself with his face, which is the noblest part of the body, and the least of punishment may have an impact on it. He will try to shield himself with it from the terrible punishment because his hands and feet will be tied up. Al-Saadi: 723.
Question: The dwellers of the Fire will try to shield with their faces the punishment. Why?
Among the features of the Quran, the examples are singled out for mention in order to attract their attention to reflect on a great aspect of its inimitability, which are its eloquent examples, for their eloquent people used to compete in the excellence of examples. Ibn Ashur: 23/397.
Question: The examples in the Quran are singled out for mention. Why?
