Sad Verses 0 - 17

The mention of David and other Prophets who came after him in this Surah is to console the Prophet (ﷺ), to promise him of victory, to relieve his hardship, and to help him attain the level of patience of which he is enjoined. When Allah mentions His blessings upon David, such as the subjection of birds and mountains, strengthening of his kingdom, giving him wisdom and discernment in speech, then, nearness to Allah and a good place of return in the Hereafter – it is like saying: O Muhammad, as We blessed David with all these blessings, We will bless you, so bear with patience and do not let their words grieve you. Ibn Juzay: 2/249.
Question: What is the link between Allah's command to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to be patient and to mention David?

Sad Verses 0 - 17

One of the lessons learned from the story of David is that Allah praises and loves a person to have energy when doing acts of obedience and worship, and to be strong in both physical and mental terms because if a person is strong, it will result in performing more acts of obedience properly, which cannot be done when a person is weak and has no resolve. The individual should seek means of developing strength and energy, and not become lazy and slow, as that will lead to loss of energy that will weaken one's resolve. Al-Saadi: 713.
Question: Allah likes the servant's strength in His obedience. Explain that, given His description of David (u) as (the man of strength).

Sad Verses 0 - 20

Another lesson from the story of David is that one of the greatest blessings that Allah can bestow upon His servant is to bless him with beneficial knowledge so that he knows how to judge between people, as Allah blessed His servant David (u) with such knowledge. Al-Saadi: 713.
Question: What do we learn from Allah's blessing of wisdom upon David?

Sad Verses 23 - 24

In the books of the Children of Israel, some parts of the story of David are narrated inappropriately, and some earlier Muslim storytellers used to repeat that, so Ali bin Abi Talib (t) said: Whoever narrates what these storytellers are saying about David (u), I will punish him for slandering twice for his transgression against the one whom Allah has raised high. Ibn Atiyah: 4/499.
Question: What is mentioned about Ali bin Abi Talib (t) regarding David’s story preserves the status of Prophethood. Explain.

Seeking forgiveness and doing acts of worship, especially prayer, are among the means of absolving sins, because Allah linked the forgiveness of David’s sin to his prayer for forgiveness and his prostration. Al-Saadi: 713.
Question: Given this verse, how important is performing prayer as a means of absolving sins?
