A sound heart is one that is clear of shirk and doubts. Awf Al-A'rabi said: I asked Muhammad bin Sirin: What is a sound heart? He said: Sincere advice to all people for the sake of Allah. Al-Qurtubi: 18/50.
Question: What are the qualities of the sound heart, so we may attain them?
What do you think the Lord of the worlds will do to you, when you worship others besides Him? This was warning them of the requital for persisting in their ascription of partners to Allah. Al-Saadi: 705.
Question: This verse contains exhortation and intimidation to the polytheists. Explain.
Abrahm (u) said that only to ridicule those who worshiped these idols. Ibn Juzay: 2/238.
Question: How did Abraham (u) speak to the idols while they were inanimate objects?
This verse is a proof of migration and social isolation. Abraham (u) was the first to do that when Allah saved him from the fire, he said: (I am going to my Lord), which means: I will migrate from my home and the home of my people and my birth place to another place where I can worship my Lord. Al-Qurtubi: 18/59.
Question: When is it ordained for the believer to go into social isolation or migrate?
The offspring is described as righteous because the blessing of having an offspring who is righteous is ideal, for the righteousness of the offspring is a source of joy for the fathers. Moreover, their righteousness leads them to be dutiful toward their parents. Ibn Ashur: 23/148.
Question: Explain the importance of supplicating Allah for righteous offspring.
If it is said: Why did Abraham (u) consult with his son Ishmael (u) in a matter that was decreed by Allah? The answer is: He did not consult him to go along with what he would say, rather, he wanted to let him know what he intended to do so that Ishmael's heart would be firm and resolve to have patience; he replied to his father with the best answer. Ibn Juzay: 2/238.
Question: Why did Abraham (u) consult with his son in a matter that was decreed by Allah?
Ishmael told his father that he had resolved to patience, and he linked that to the will of Allah, because nothing happens except by Allah's will. Al-Saadi: 706.
Question: Ishmael mentioned the will of Allah alongside his patience. Why?
