Meaning: We did nothing more than to call you, and you followed us without evidence or proof, and you went against the evidence and proof which the Messengers brought because of your own desires; it was your own choice. Hence, they will say: (Rather, you were criminals). Ibn Kathir: 3/518.
Question: The oppressed will be described as criminals. Why?
Meaning: The oppressed will say to the arrogant: It was your conspiracy of night and day that caused us to be disbelievers. Ibn Juzay: 2/207.
Question: Every allegiance that is not based on Allah's Sharia will turn into enmity. Give an example of that in light of this verse.
Question: Why is a relative clause used in this verse?
This is the reply of the followers to their leaders when they said to them: You disbelieved by your own choice. The oppressed reply is: Rather, we disbelieved because you conspired against us night and day. The conspiracy is associated with night and day to indicate diligence and continuity. Ibn Atiyah: 4/421.
Question: What will be the reply of the oppressed to their misguiding leaders on the Day of Resurrection?
Meaning: They will realize that the argument that they tried to use against one another in order to be saved from the punishment is invalid, and that they are all wrongdoers who deserve punishment. Hence, each one of them will be filled with deep remorse and will wish that he had followed the truth, and rejected the falsehood that brought him to this punishment. However, each one will keep this regret to himself for fear of scandal and shame if he admits that he deserves it. Al-Saadi: 681.
Question: On the Day of Resurrection, the disbelievers will keep their regrets to themselves. Why?
Meaning: They were proud of their great wealth and great number of children, and they believed that this was a sign that Allah loved them and cared for them, and that if He gave them this in this world, He would not punish them in the Hereafter. Ibn Kathir: 3/519.
Question: The disbelievers linked the abundance of wealth and children to the absence of punishment. Why?
In an implicit reply to them, Allah makes known that He extends provision in this life and restricts it in accordance with His will. Hence, He may extend provision for a disbeliever and disobedient, while restricts it for a believer and obedient, or He can do the opposite. So, there is no proof that this is linked to what will occur in the Hereafter. Ibn Juzay: 2/208.
Question: What is the way of Allah in distributing provisions in this life? Is it a true criteria for salvation in the Hereafter?
Ibn Al-Arabi said: "Allah may compensate the same or more, and He may compensate it in this life or keep it as a reward in the Hereafter. The same arrangement is done with the supplication when Allah promises to answer it." I said: Allah may compensate it as good health or a long life. Allah has great secrets in His creation. Ibn Ashur: 22/221.
Question: List various types of compensation that Allah may give to His servant when he spends.
