Luqman Verses 2 - 3

But, although it is wise and precise, and it calls to every noble characteristic and forbids every ignoble characteristic, most people are deprived of being guided by it, and they turn away from believing in it and acting upon it, except those whom Allah guides and protects from misguidance. They are the ones who do good by worshiping their Lord, and showing kindness to others. Al-Saadi: 646.
Question: What are the positions of people toward this Book of wisdom?

Singling out two good deeds for mention: Prayer which involves devotion, conversing with Allah and other actions of the heart, words and physical movements, and which helps them to do all kinds of good deeds; and zakah which purifies the giver of bad characteristics, benefits his Muslim brethren and meets his needs, and by means of it a person demonstrates clearly that he gives precedence to love of Allah over love of wealth, and that he gives away what he loves of wealth for the sake of that which is dearer to him, which is attaining the pleasure of Allah. Al-Saadi: 646.
Question: Among all deeds, establishing prayer, and giving zakah are singled out. Why?

(Those who establish prayer), they perform its essentials and options in a perfect way on a timely and consistent manner. Al-Biqai: 15/144.
Question: What does this expression, (Those who establish prayer) imply?

Luqman Verses 0 - 6

Abu Al-Sahba' Al-Bakri said: I asked Ibn Masoud (t) about the meaning of this verse, and he said: "It means singing, by Allah, other than whom there is no god," and he repeated that three times. Ibrahim Al-Nakhai said: "Singing is the seed of hypocrisy in the heart." Moreover, it is said: "Singing is a call for shameful acts." Al-Baghawi: 3/506.
Question: In light of this verse, explain the harms of singing based on the words of righteous predecessors.

Luqman Verses 0 - 6

(Idle talk), whatever distracts people and wastes their time, like singing, comical things, and useless matters. All that can lead the soul from lust to animalistic traits and frivolous play like dancing, and akin to it, which takes him to the lowest of the low, while the one mentioned before him rose up through wisdom to the highest of high. Al-Biqai: 15/146.
Question: What is the risk of slipping into distractions?

Luqman Verses 0 - 6

Qatadah said: "By Allah, he may not spend money on it, but buying it means that he likes it, and the more misguided he is, the more he likes it, and the more he prefers falsehood to the truth and harmful things over beneficial things." Ibn Kathir: 3/426.
Question: Do those who are implied by this verse actually spend money to buy idle talk?

Luqman Verses 0 - 6

Just as they showed no respect to the signs and path of Allah, so they will be humiliated in the painful, constant torment on the Day of Resurrection. Ibn Kathir: 3/426.
Question: Recompensing those befits their action. Explain.
