Among His sublime attributes are His Might and Wisdom, mentioned here, since the effects of these two attributes are manifest in beginning the creation and repeating it. Allah's Might entails His absolute self-sufficiency, therefore His absolute capability. His Wisdom entails His total knowledge. Ibn Ashur: 21/84.
Question: These two attributes (All-Mighty, the All-Wise) are singled out for mention here. Why?
Meaning: Repeating creation after they die will be (easier for him) than their original creation. This is as far as human minds are concerned. So, just as you affirm that He is able to originate creation, then, His ability to repeat it will be even easier. Al-Saadi: 640.
Question: Responses that employ logic are used in the Quran. Explain in light of this verse.
The people who use reason refrain from obstinacy and turning away; and they seek the truth because of their sound intellect. Hence, the believers will have no doubts, and the heedless, who are misled by the misguidance of the polytheists, become believers due to these clear signs. This verse alludes to those who are stubborn in their shirk that they are not among the people who use reason nor will they benefit from these signs. Ibn Ashur: 21/87.
Question: What are the attributes of those who possess sound intellect?
As for those who do not understand, even if the revelations are explained to them and proof is presented to them, they have no sound minds with which to understand what is presented to them. It is the people of reason and understanding who should be addressed. Al-Saadi: 640.
Question: The people of reason are addressed exclusively. Why?
Defining Islam as the religion of Allah means the basis of its beliefs conforms to the natural disposition of mankind. The ordinances of Islam either coincide with human nature, as attested by sound mind, or do not contradict human nature. Ibn Ashur: 21/91.
Question: Islam is a religion that coincides with human natural disposition. What does that mean?
When Muslims differ with each other in religious issues due to independent reasoning, or disagreement over matters related to public interests, they must be cautious not to be divided into separate hostile sects. Ibn Ashur: 21/96.
Question: What should be the lesson learned by Muslims from the censure of the division of the People of the Book?
(Sects), allied groups; each one allies with those who agree with its beliefs against others who do not, until they charged one another with infidelity, and went on to make their lives and wealth lawful for the taking. This was a definite sign that all of them were not on the right path. (Rejoicing), thinking that they were the only ones who knew the truth. Al-Biqai: 15/90-91.
Question: In light of this verse, explain the risk of becoming divided over the religion of Allah.
