The wrath of Hellfire against them stems from the wrath of its Creator, and its flames will increase because of the increase in their disbelief and evil. Al-Saadi: 579.
Question: Why will the dwellers of Hellfire incur its wrath?
It will be a combination of the tight and narrow space and the overcrowding of inhabitants, who will be bound together in chains and shackles. Al-Saadi: 579.
Question: This verse presents different ways of tormenting the disbelievers. Explain.
If someone asks: If these worshiped idols will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection, how will they speak when they are only inanimate objects? The answer is: Allah will make them speak, just as He will make the hands and feet speak. Al-Qurtubi: 15/378.
Question: How will the idols, which are inanimate objects, speak on the Day of Resurrection?
Meaning: Allah will say to the worshiped: (Did you mislead these servants of Mine, or did they stray) on their own and by their choice, and you did not? Even though Allah is well aware of them, however, this question is a rebuke to the disbelievers who worshiped them. Ibn Juzay: 2/104.
Question: Allah's question to the worshiped idols is a rebuke to the disbelievers. Explain.
(Pleasures), means that You provided them in this worldly life with wealth, health, and longevity until after the death of the Messengers (p). (Until they forgot the message), means that they neglected Your remembrance, and ascribed partners to You, out of their insolence and ignorance. Al-Qurtubi: 15/379.
Question: Explain the risk of being fully distracted by diversion and enjoying life's pleasures.
They said: (Glory be to You), they exalted Allah above having a partner. (It was not for us to take besides You any allies), We would never take your enemies as our allies, rather, You are our ally, not them. It is also said that it means: We would never command them to worship us while we are worshiping You. Al-Baghawi: 3/326.
Question: In light of this verse, explain the disownment of Allah’s allies from what ignorant people do at their gravesites.
(And We have made some of you as a trial for others), a test; the rich are a test for the poor. The poor would say: Why could not I be like him? A healthy person is a test for the sick; a person from a noble family is a test for another of humble social status. Ibn Abbas (k) said: "It means: I have some of you as a test for others so that you endure patiently what you hear from them." Al-Baghawi: 3/326.
Question: How do people become a test for one another?
