The words of this verse allude to following satan and adhering to his whispers. It is as saying: Do not follow satan in any action, including the spared and love of indecency. Al-Alusi: 9/320.
Question: Allah forbids to follow the footsteps of satan instead of mentioning not to follow him directly. Why?
Most interpreters apply the meaning of this verse in general, saying: Allah says that if not for His favor and mercy through His protection, no one of you would ever be righteous. Al-Baghawi: 3/281.
Question: Can anyone protect himself from making a mistake?
This verse was revealed when Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (t) swore to stop his financial help to his poor cousin, Mistah bin Athathah, for he took part in the slander. After this verse was revealed, Abu Bakr resumed his assistance to him, and expiated his oath. Some scholars said: "This is the most promising verse in the Quran because Allah recommends kindness to a slanderer." It also indicates that no one should swear not to do good. (Would you not like that Allah should forgive you), just as you like Allah to forgive your sins, you should forgive others when they wronged you. After this verse was revealed, Abu Bakr (t) said: "Indeed, I like Allah to forgive me," and he resumed his financial assistance to Mistah. Ibn Juzay: 2/87.
Question: Do the mistakes of others toward you necessitate abandoning doing good to them?
This verse shows that the reward fits the deed, and that if you forgive others, you will be forgiven. Ibn Kathir: 3/267.
Question: In light of this verse, talk about the principle of (a befitting recompense).
The (unaware) is the woman who never thinks of committing indecency, and Aisha (i) was just that. Al-Baghawi: 3/282.
Question: How can someone be unaware of committing indecency?
These limbs participate in slandering chaste women; their tongues speak the slander, their hands point to the accused women, and their feet carry them to sitting places of people to tell them about the slander. Ibn Ashur: 18/191.
Question: Of all body limbs, why are these three singled out for mention?
Abu Al-Sa'ib Al-Qadi: I was at the presence of Al-Hasan bin Zayd, and there was a man present with him, who talked about Aisha (i), and slandered her with indecency. Al-Hasan bin Zayd said to his guard: "Behead this man." Al-Hasan's relatives said to him: "This man is one of our supporters." He replied: "Allah forbid, this man slandered the Prophet (ﷺ), since Allah says, (Evil women are for evil men and evil men for evil women, and virtuous women are for virtuous men and virtuous men for virtuous women. These [virtuous ones] are innocent of what [the slanderers] say; they will have forgiveness and a generous provision). Hence, if Aisha (i) was evil, so was the Prophet (ﷺ); this man is a disbeliever; behead him," and he was beheaded while I was present. Narrated by Al-Lalaka'i. Ibn Taimyah: 4/505.
Question: Slandering the Mother of the believers, Aisha (i), is slandering the Prophet (ﷺ). Explain
