ﭦ ﭧ ﭨ ﭩ ﭪ ﭫ ﭬ ٢١٦ ٢١٦ ﭮ ﭯ ﭰ
ﭱ ﭲ ﭳ ﭴ ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸ ﭹ ﭺ ﭻ ﭼ
ﭽ ﭾ ﭿ ﮀ ﮁ ﮂ ﮃ ﮄ
ﮅ ﮆ ﮇ ﮈ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ
ﮐ ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﮕ ﮖ ﮗ ﮘ
ﮙ ﮚ ﮛ ﮜ ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ
ﮡ ﮢ ﮣ ﮤ ﮥ ﮦ ﮧ ﮨ
ﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭ ٢١٧ ٢١٧ ﮯ ﮰ ﮱ ﯓ
ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ﯛ
ﯜ ﯝ ﯞ ﯟ ﯠ ٢١٨ ٢١٨ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ
ﯨ ﯩ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ﯯ
ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ
ﯻ ﯼ ﯽ ﯾ ﯿ ﰀ ٢١٩ ٢١٩
كُتِبَ عَلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ وَهُوَ كُرۡهٞ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكۡرَهُواْ شَيۡٔاً وَهُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّواْ شَيۡٔاً وَهُوَ شَرّٞ لَّكُمۡۚ
This dislike is due to the natural aversion to war because of its difficulties and risks to wealth and souls; it is not because they disliked the command of Allah. Al-Baghawi: 1/203.
Question: How can fighting in the cause of Allah be disliked by the believers?
وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكۡرَهُواْ شَيۡٔاً وَهُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡۖ
Fighting is good for you because it is followed by victory and triumph over the enemies, and the seizure of their lands, money and offspring. Ibn Kathir: 1/239.
Question: How can fighting be good even though it appears to cause pain and difficulties?
وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّواْ شَيۡٔاً وَهُوَ شَرّٞ لَّكُمۡۚ
Abstaining from fighting may lead the enemy to seize control of the Muslim country and the government. Ibn Kathir: 1/239.
Question: The society may rejoice in abandoning fighting, but that would be bad for it. How so?
يَسۡٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلشَّهۡرِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ قِتَالٖ فِيهِۖ قُلۡ قِتَالٞ فِيهِ كَبِيرٞۚ وَصَدٌّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَكُفۡرُۢ بِهِۦ وَٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ وَإِخۡرَاجُ أَهۡلِهِۦ مِنۡهُ أَكۡبَرُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱلۡفِتۡنَةُ أَكۡبَرُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَتۡلِۗ
If killing during the Sacred Months is evil, then persecution of Muslims by the disbelievers and prevailing of disbelief is far greater evil than killing, so the greater evil is warded off by committing to the lesser of the two. Ibn Taimyah: 1/501.
Question: Which action is more harmful: leading society to disbelief, or leading it to Jihad?
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُواْ وَجَٰهَدُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يَرۡجُونَ رَحۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِۚ
An indication that even if a servant performs as many deeds as he has done, he should not rely on them, but rather hope for the mercy of his Lord, hope for acceptance of his deeds, forgiveness of his sins, and concealment of his imperfections. Al-Saadi: 98.
Question: This verse contains great guidance for those who do good deeds. What is it?
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُواْ وَجَٰهَدُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يَرۡجُونَ رَحۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ ٢١٨
After Allah praised them, He says, (they who hope), because no one in this world knows if he will enter Paradise even if he reaches every level in obedience to Allah, for two reasons: One of them is that he does not know what will happen to him, and the second is so that he does not rely on his deeds. Al-Qurtubi: 3/432.
Question: Why is the word (they who hope) used even though the believers had maintained great deeds?
كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَفَكَّرُونَ ٢١٩
Reflecting on these verses revealed by Allah so you may infer its laws and benefits for the public good, as it helps you choose what is best for you and evade what is harmful. Al-Alusi: 2/116.
