Adding (the devils) to the polytheists is meant to disdain them in that they will be gathered with the worst and most corrupt beings. It also indicates that the devils are the cause of their misguidance which brought them to this situation. Ibn Ashur: 16/147.
Question: What is the wisdom behind adding the devils to the polytheists?
(Those who were most rebellious against the Most Merciful), most obstinate. Ibn Abbas () said: "It means the most defiant." Mujahid said: "The most wicked," which means the most rebellious first then the lesser one next. Al-Kalbi said: "Their leader and head of evil," which means the first one to be dragged out to Hell will be the worst criminal and the biggest in disbelief. Some say that they will all be gathered around Hell in chains, then the biggest in disbelief will be dragged out to Hell first. Al-Baghawi: 3/99.
Question: Explain the punishment of the one who is a leader in evil and tyranny.
Abdullah bin Rawahah (t) wept while leaning his head on his wife's lap, who also wept with him, and he said: "Why are you weeping?" She replied, "I wept when I saw you weeping." He said: "I recalled Allah's saying: (And there is none among you except that he will pass over it), and I do not know if I will be saved from it or not!" When Abu Maysarah goes to bed, he used to say, "I wish I had not been born!" hen he began weeping, and so it was said to him, "What is the matter, Abu Maysarah?" He said, "We were told that we will come to it [Hellfire], but we were not told that we will be saved from it." Ibn Kathir: 3/129.
Question: Those who reflect on the meanings of the Quran are fearful of coming to Hellfire. Why?
(Which of the two groups, us or the believers, is better in terms of dwellings), in this world, and in terms of large amounts of wealth, large numbers of children and fulfilment of desires. Thus it is known that concluding that one will be in a good situation in the Hereafter, because he is in a good situation in this world is one of the most flawed arguments, and is the way of thinking of the disbelievers. Al-Saadi: 499.
Question: People often believe that having worldly blessings is a sign of Allah's love for them. What do you think?
(Possessions): Wealth and clothing, etc. (Appearance): Exterior image. Allah states that those whom He destroyed before them used to have better images, clothing and wealth in order to show that all of these things neither benefit them with Allah, nor does He care about them. Ibn Taimyah: 4/292.
Question: Wealth and images do not benefit their owners with Allah. Explain in light of this verse.
The criterion for differentiating between one who has a blessing due to Allah's pleasure with him, and another who has a blessing that gradually leads him to his doom - is to look whether his way of life adheres to guidance or misguidance. Ibn Ashur: 16/155.
Question: How do we distinguish between one who has a blessing due to Allah's pleasure with him and another who has a blessing that gradually leads him to his doom?
(And the righteous deeds of lasting merit): Athkar (remembrance of Allah) and righteous deeds which last for its doer. Al-Baghawi: 3/105.
Question: What are the righteous deeds of lasting merit? Why is it called as such?
