Allah will show Hell to them, which means that He will bring it forth for them to see its punishment and torment before they enter it. This will intensify their distress and grief. Ibn Kathir: 3/104.
Question: Why will Hellfire be shown to the disbelievers before they enter it on the Day of Resurrection?
Meaning: They could not bear to hear the verses of Allah which lead to faith because of their resentment toward the Quran and the Messenger (ﷺ), for the one who is filled with resentment cannot bear to hear the words of the one whom he resents. Once the ways of knowledge and goodness are blocked to them, they have no way to hear or see, and no reasoning that could benefit them. Al-Saadi: 487.
Question: Those who resent Islam cannot hear the verses of the Quran in a useful way. Why?
Calling the torment of Hellfire a (lodging) is a metaphor intended for ridicule. Ibn Ashur: 16/45.
Question: Why is the torment of Hellfire called a (lodging)?
This proves that one may do deeds believing that he is a doer of good, but his deeds are nullified due to either his corrupt belief or showing off. Al-Qurtubi: 13/392.
Question: The servant's deed may become nullified while he is unaware. Why?
Their nullified deeds will result in not giving weight to them because no good deeds left for them, thus, they will become disdained. Ibn Ashur: 16/48.
Question: There will be no weight given to the disbelievers on the Day of Resurrection. Why?
Meaning: They will never want to leave or move from there because they do not see anything but that which amazes and delights them, gives them joy and happiness, and they cannot imagine any bliss greater than that in which they are. Al-Saadi: 488.
Question: The dwellers of Paradise will not want to move away from it to something else. Why?
Ibn Abbas () said: "Allah taught humbleness to His Messenger (ﷺ), lest he would be boastful, and ordered him to say: I am a human just like you except I am given the revelation from Allah who honored me with it." Al-Baghawi: 3/70.
Question: Explain the importance of humbleness from this verse.
