Wealth and children) which Utbah bin Rabi'ah (one of the chiefs of Quraish) and his rich fellows used to brag about are (the adornments of the life of this world) and not among the provisions of the Hereafter. Ali bin Abi Talib (t) said: "Wealth and children are the harvest [benefits] of this world while righteous deeds are the harvest of the Hereafter, and Allah may combine both for some people." Al-Baghawi: 3/34.
Question: What is the harvest of this world? And what is the harvest of the Hereafter?
What will remain and benefit a person, bringing him joy, are righteous deeds of lasting merit. That includes all acts of obedience, both obligatory and recommended, having to do with the rights of Allah and the rights of His servants, such as Prayer, Zakah, Charity, Hajj, Umrah, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahleel, Takbeer, reciting Quran, seeking beneficial knowledge, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, maintaining ties of kinship, honoring one's parents, fulfilling the rights of wives, slaves, and animals, and all acts of kindness toward people. Al-Saadi: 479.
Question: List some of the lasting righteous deeds.
Meaning: Clear and open, with no features that anyone may recognize and nothing for anyone to hide behind. All creatures will be visible to their Lord, and not one of them will be hidden from Him. Ibn Kathir: 3/85-86.
Question: (And you will see the earth laid bare) implies a warning, what is it about?
Meaning: Without wealth, without family and without tribe. They will have nothing with them except the deeds that they did and whatever they earned of good or evil. Al-Saadi: 479.
Question: What is meant by (You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time)?
Qatadah said: They will complain about the enumeration, and no one will ever complain about injustice, so beware of evil deeds that are regarded as insignificant, for when they are accumulated, they destroy their perpetrator. Al-Qurtubi: 15/459.
Question: When will the servant likely be destroyed by insignificant sins?
A prostration of respect and honor. Ibn Kathir: 3/87.
Question: Was the prostration of angels to Adam (u) an act of worship? What was it?.
Allah points out to the children of Adam the enmity of Iblis toward them and their father before them, and rebukes those who follow him and go against their Creator and Master. It is He who created them from nothing and sustains and nourishes them by His kindness, yet they still took Iblis as their ally and declared their enmity toward Allah. So Allah says, (And [mention] when We said to the angels). Ibn Kathir: 3/87.
Question: Explain some of the ignorance and stubbornness of the children of Adam in light of this verse.
