Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 35

(While he was unjust to himself), either by his disbelief or by his encounter with his companion, since he showed boasting, arrogance, and disdain for him. Ibn Juzay: 1/510.
Question: The garden's owner was unjust to himself by committing four things. What were they?

Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 36

What connection can there be between what one is given in this world and what he will be given in the Hereafter, such that one might think, on the basis of ignorance, that the one who is given bounty in this world will necessarily be given bounty in the hereafter? Rather, what is usually the case is that Allah keeps worldly gains away from His allies and chosen ones, while granting such things in abundance to His enemies, who have no share in the Hereafter. Al-Saadi: 477.
Question: Is there a connection between what one is given in this world and what he will be given in the Hereafter?

Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 39

Meaning: Whatever wealth that had been accumulated for you was solely by the might and power of Allah, not by your own, and if He wills, He would remove His blessing from it, rendering it nothing at all. Al-Qurtubi: 13/280.
Question: Can man own anything with his own power?

Al-Kahf Verses 39 - 40

The believer said to his disbelieving companion that Allah's blessing of faith and Islam upon him -even with little wealth and fewer sons- is the true blessing while everything else is subject to termination and punishment. Al-Saadi: 477.
Question: What are the best and most complete blessing upon the Muslim?

Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 42

The punishment that destroyed his garden was not for his disbelief; rather, Allah may give many disbelievers enjoyment throughout life, give them respite, and gradually lead them to their demise. However, the swift punishment of this disbeliever was due to his tyranny, and the use of his wealth as a means to disdain the poor believer. Ibn Ashur: 15/328.
Question: What was the reason for the swift punishment of this disbeliever who is mentioned in this verse even though Allah may give many disbelievers enjoyment throughout life?

Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 42

It is not implausible to say that by the mercy and kindness of Allah, the situation of this owner of the garden that was destroyed later improved, and Allah enabled him to turn back to Him, come back to his senses, and give up his rebellion and transgression. That is based on the fact that he expressed regret for his ascription of partners to his Lord, and that Allah took away from him what had caused him to transgress, and He punished him in this world. If Allah wills good for a person, He hastens to punish him in this world. Al-Saadi: 478.
Question: The punishment of the garden's owner may had been good for him. Explain.

Al-Kahf Verses 0 - 45

Wise men said: Allah likens this life to water because water does not stay in one form, and so does this life. Water does not last but disappears, and this life also terminates. Every one who enters water becomes wet, and the same happens with one who is in this life, where he cannot escape its temptations and troubles. A reasonable amount of water is useful, while more of it is harmful, and the same can be said about this life, having what suffices is useful while taking excess is harmful. Al-Qurtubi: 13/289.
Question: Explain some of the similarities between water and the life of this world.
