This verse proves the adoption of means to reach an end. Al-Qurtubi: 12/305.
Question: Does reliance upon Allah contradicts the adoption of means? Explain.

(If you try to count Allah's blessings) without thanking Him (you will not be able to enumerate them), let alone give proper thanks, as His blessings to His servants, both apparent and hidden, are as many as the breaths they take and the moments that pass. This applies to all kinds of blessings, both those of which people are aware and those of which they are not. Moreover, what He wards off from them of calamities are even more than they can be counted. (Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful), He is pleased with a little thanks from you, even though His blessings are so many. Al-Saadi: 437
Question: The verse ends with (Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful), why?

From the beginning of this Surah up to this verse, Allah enumerates a wide variety of His creations as a proof of His Oneness, and that is why they are followed by this verse: (Is then He Who creates equal to one who cannot create?). Moreover, they include the enumeration of His blessings upon His creation, and that is why they are followed by this verse: (And if you try to count Allah's blessings, you will not be able to enumerate them), then, He says, (Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful) which means that He forgives your shortcoming in thanking Him for His blessings. Ibn Juzay: 1/460.
Question: The verse ends with (Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful), why?

Allah asserts that He knows what is concealed, as well as, what is revealed. He will recompense everyone for their deeds on the Day of Resurrection. If their deeds are good, they will be rewarded, but if their deeds are evil, they will be punished. Ibn Kathir: 2/546.
Question: What is the practical benefit of knowing that Allah knows what you conceal and reveal?

(They are [in fact] dead, not alive), the reason for using the term (not alive) after (dead) is that some things that can be lifeless at one point may become alive afterward, such as a sperm-drop, so the term (not alive) is mentioned to guard against this meaning. Moreover, this is as saying: They are dead and will never be alive. Al-Alusi: 14/485.
Question: In describing the gods of the polytheists, the term (not alive) is used after (dead). Why?

They misguide those who do not know of their misguidance, which indicates that their evil plot does not deceive a prudent person, and only ignorant people will follow them. This is also a rebuke to them for not guiding the ignorant instead of misguiding them. This verse is quoted as evidence that a person who follows a scholar must look for and distinguish between the truthful and the falsifier since he is not exempt from responsibility due to his ignorance. Al-Alusi: 489-490.
Question: In light of this verse, discuss the downsides of ignorance and following others in religious matters.
