Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 75

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّلۡمُتَوَسِّمِينَ ٧٥

Discernment can be attained through good mental ability, a sharp perception, a clear mind, and a heart that is devoid of the distractions of this worldly life, purified from the evil of sins, the tarnish of morals, and the longing for the adornments of this life. Al-Qurtubi: 12/234.
Question: How can a servant attain true discernment?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 80

وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ٨٠

The Dwellers of Al-Hijr were the people of Thamud who denied their Prophet, Salih (u), and whoever denies one Messenger, denies all the Messengers. Thus they are described as denied (the Messengers). Ibn Kathir: 2/536.
Question: How did the Dwellers of Al-Hijr deny all the Messengers even though they had only denied their Prophet, Salih (u)?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 84

فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ ٨٤

Meaning: Nothing avails them of what they had earned of wealth, fortresses in the mountains, and not even their own great physical power given to them by Allah. Al-Qurtubi: 12/249.
Question: Can wealth and material power ward off Allah’s punishment form a person or a community?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 85

فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِيلَ ٨٥

As opposed to forgiveness that is not gracious, which is inappropriate forgiveness. So, one should not be forgiving when punishment is more appropriate, such as punishment for transgressors and wrongdoers for whom nothing is effective except punishment. Al-Saadi: 434.
Question: Is there forgiveness that is not gracious? What is it?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 87

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَٰكَ سَبۡعٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمَثَانِي وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡعَظِيمَ ٨٧

Abu Saeed bin Al-Mu'alla said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "It is Surat Al-Fatiha, (Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds) is the seven oft-repeated verses and the mighty Quran which I have been given." Al-Alusi: 14/432.

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 88

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيۡنَيۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزۡوَٰجٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٨٨

(Do not look longingly), do not look at the enjoyment We gave them in this life, as if saying: We have given you the seven of the oft-repeated verses and the great Quran, so do not look at this life because what We have given you is much greater. Ibn Juzay: 1/455.

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 88

وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٨٨

Meaning: Soften your conduct with those who followed you, and be humble with them. In the original text, the word "wing" is used as an image of a bird lowering its and hugs its young, which is a description of a man bringing his followers closer. Al-Qurtubi: 12/254.
Question: How should the believer treat his faithful brethren?
