Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 52

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰمٗا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمۡ وَجِلُونَ ٥٢

Since these guests arrived at the house at a peculiar time, he thought that they intended to harm him. Ibn Ashur: 14/58.
Question: Why did Abraham (u) begin by saying: (Indeed, we are fearful of you)?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 55

قَالُواْ بَشَّرۡنَٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡقَٰنِطِينَ ٥٥

Since Abraham (ﷺ) was free from despairing of Allah's mercy, the angels admonishment to him was polite. They cautioned him not to be of those who despair. Ibn Ashur: 14/60.
Question: The angels addressed Abraham (u) in a polite manner. Explain.

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 56

قَالَ وَمَن يَقۡنَطُ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٥٦

Meaning: Who despairs of his Lord's mercy (except for those astray), the losers. Despair of Allah's mercy is a major sin that is similar to feeling secure in His plan. Al-Baghawi: 2/590.
Question: Some sinners and those struck with afflictions become despair of Allah's mercy, saying: Allah will never forgive me! Or My affliction will never end! How do you respond to him?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 65

فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعٖ مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَٰرَهُمۡ وَلَا يَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدٞ

A common practice for leaders is to be closer to danger than others, sacrificing their souls and strengthening others; knowing that being closer to danger will not shorten their lives while being far from it will not save them from harm nor avail them against fate. Meaning: Follow behind them so that you will not worry about any of them being left behind, and that they will not look back out of respect to you. Al-Biqai: 4/229.
Question: When they left their city, Lot (u) walked behind his family. Why?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 65

فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعٖ مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَٰرَهُمۡ

They told him to walk behind them to protect them. Similarly, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would walk in the rear of the army on military campaigns, in order to help the weak and carry those who had no means of transport. Ibn Kathir: 2/535.
Question: Describe the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) when marching for Jihad.

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 65

وَلَا يَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدٞ

In this case, the onlooker is unsettled because he is either uncertain of what Allah said or grieves over what is happening to them; thus, whoever looks back will be tormented. Moreover, walking without looking back reflects determination in migrating and prompts faster walking. Moreover, it shows that their hearts are no longer attached to their houses and belongings which they left behind, and that they do not grieve over those whom Allah's wrath had befallen. Even so, if they look back, they may see what they cannot bear to see. Al-Biqai: 4/229.
Question: What is the wisdom behind commanding Lot (u) and his family not to look back?

Al-Hijr Verses 0 - 69

وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخۡزُونِ ٦٩

Lot (u) reminded them using the religious deterrent -despite of their disbelief- thereby fulfilling the message he brought to them, and using the common deterrent, when he said, (And fear Allah and do not disgrace me). Ibn Ashur: 14/66.
Question: Lot (u) reminded his people using the religious and common deterrents. Explain.
